Varys for Plex app is here!

Last week I released the first version of Varys for Plex in the App Store!

WHAT IS VARYS FOR PLEX?

When I developed the Remote for Tautulli iOS app I always had the vision to build an easier solution of Plex Media Server monitoring. And that’s exactly what it is. With Varys you have let’s say 90% of the features without the requirement to setup your own Tautulli server. To compensate those remaining 10% you get a bunch of great features that Tautulli doesn’t have, such as full user management and cpu/bandwidth monitoring.

Please note: Varys for Plex is a paid application. Basically you get the activity tab (current playback incl. all details and sub-pages) for free, all other feature you need to unlock via in-app-purchase. This will give you the option to evaluate if Varys can connect to your server. Please see it as kind of trial.

FEATURES

A full feature list you can find in the App Store description or at features.varys-app.com

USE CONDITIONS

Varys for Plex requires Plex Media Server version 1.15.1 or higher with remote access enabled and working. This last part is important, otherwise Varys will not be able to access your server. It is recommended to use latest 1.15.3 version of Plex Media Server. Please note that most of the features require an active Plex Pass subscription. This app works with servers you are logged in as admin only!

UPDATE 10.10.2021

The new years update of Varys just shipped and allows you to lock/unlock the app using FaceID/TouchID or the device pin code as fallback. It also comes with authorized devices management and shiny new library stats that show the share of different resolutions of your libraries! :bar_chart:

In case you missed it, Varys also supports the recently introduced Plex 2-factor-authentication and comes with new widgets. I’ve also implemented several smaller improvements such as dedicated rating info for IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, the option to search users, improved Tautulli integration or detection of Plex api outages.

I hope you enjoy the recent updates! :hugs::sunglasses:

One word regarding Apple Silicon M1 support: I decided to currently disable the “out of the box support” for the new processor, as with the first tests I was not quite happy with the result and quality, also the look and feel was pretty uncommon for a mac app. This might change in the future, but for now I think this is the better option.

Nice looking app, good work :sunglasses:

Thank you!

Wow. That looks great
As a Windows/Android user who has however fallen in love with Apple TV. I think you just gave me another reason to consider an iPhone.
Awesome job from looking at the screenshots.

Very nice! Will this app keep track of Live TV?

It’s based on Plex apis, you will be able to see if a live tv stream is running, incl. the stream infos e.g. quality of stream, but same as on Plex dashboard you will not see the title or thumbnail of the stream, as I don’t get this info from Plex  but you’ll get a nice “live tv” icon I’ve added for this case

Thank you @grogster, that sounds good!
Just one more thing, I already have your previous app Tautulli and it shows when a live tv stream is on but it doesn’t keep any track on the history list. Is it the same with the new app or it has the same limitation?

Thanks in advance!

@lopezhak this behavior is the same unfortunately, as Plex doesn’t keep track of those itself. You can double check by visiting the Plex dashboard, here also live tv entries are not shown :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Nice app, You got my £2.99

Thank you

Check out my latest update including a Game of Thrones special :star_struck:

My first ever iPhone arrived today. So impressed with Varys I bought the Tautulli version too as an extra way of donating.
Keep up the great work. :grinning:

Wow that was a fast decision to switch to iPhone :sunglasses: thank you so much!

It helped when my tiring S7 suddenly developed a screen fault the day after my comment. I think Apple probably saw my comment and intervened to speed up the process.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

would notification of high CPU server usage be an option? I love that I can check current CPU usage so easily but getting alerted if CPU is over a certain percentage for so long (example over 90% for 60 seconds) would be an awesome feature! or getting a notification if a set amount of transcodes are happening. Both may be out of reach for this app?
I use tautulli for alerts to mobile app currently and Varys for monitoring now haha

Very nice apps. I bought them, both.

Update: Varys for Plex now supports Apple Watch :sunglasses:

Does Varys support the same level of notifications as Tautulli? As in recently added, Plex up/down, etc… I can’t find any settings within Varys for notifications? Is this setup out of the box or does it work along side with Tautulli? And does it still require a openvpn/dynamicdns?
P.s Varys is the best 2.99$ I have ever spent, and I love energy drinks :joy:

I like to manage everything on the WebGUI. And I use the phone app as a on the go.

Will you update Tautulli to use API’s instead OR will you have a Vary’s for PC as well? Since if you created the change to Tautulli, it will pretty much act like Vary’s anyways.

I am asking because Tautulli’s data is separate from Plex where as if on Plex a movie can have 10 plays total but on Tautulli, depending on when you installed it. It may have 2 plays. But of course you know that already. It’s best to have everything on one database which is Plex and not two separate databases.

Keep up the good work. I purchased Tautulli and Vary’s for support
