Server Version: 1.20.0.3181 on Windows 10 and a Pentium J5005 with hardware transcoding
Player Version: 4.40.1 on an Surface Pro 3 with Chrome 84
When I try to play any of my VC1 Blu-Ray files, it doesn’t even start the direct playback, although server and Player are connected over a decent 5Ghz local Wi-fi network which should easily reach 400Mbit+ connection speed.
Please tell me if you need more infos and Please help!
Hm sorry to come back. If I remember correctly, the video showed at first when starting playing the video “VC1 direct play” (where it didn’t begin to play) before switching to hw transcoding after a while and then playing okay…
I can also confirm this exact problem, I noticed it last week. It happens to me with Intel Quick Sync with PMS Beta and PlexWeb, and I believe only with VC-1 so far.
The same PMS successfully transcodes VC-1 for the Roku, though.
I can test later tonight to see if it’s still happening, since I haven’t tested the problem since last week.
Hardware transcoding to PlexWeb worked properly with:
Kaby Lake i5, PMS (stable version on Windows 10), using QSV.
Quadro P400, PMS (beta version on Windows 10), using NVENC
And it failed with:
Celeron J4005 PMS (beta version on Windows 10), using QSV. It never starts, and the status in PMS stays as Direct Play until I give up (it’s possible it works eventually, but it was a long wait).
VC-1 used to transcode on the J4005, so this is a change in functionality. Could this be a problem with how Plex is working with the Goldmont CPU/GPU line?
PMS 1.20.0.3181 on Synology DS918+ (Celeron J3455)
Plex Web 4.40.1 (app.plex.tv)
Chrome 84.0.4147.125 64-bit on Win10 Pro 2004
Edge/Chrome 84.0.522.59 64-bit on Win10 Pro 2004
I played several VC1 1080p Blu-ray rips using both browsers on same PC. No problems. The video started right away and used hardware transcoding.
So maybe an issue with PMS, Win10, QSV, & Gemini Lake processors?
