I’ve wanted to setup 2FA on my Plex account for years and never been able to. There’s the button for “Send verification email” but nothing ever comes and I can’t just email support apparently so I have to post about it here.
If anyone’s able to assist, please advise on next steps. Everything I can find in this forum is random issues here or there like IP issues or mail server issues. Yes I’ve checked my junk folder, I promise.
Our email server says the verification email we sent and it was received by your email provider. If you use Outlook.com ( or other microsoft email client) make sure it is not in junkmail or trash and also check there are not any “rules” that might move it or immediately delete it.
@ma47027 email server shows it keeps trying to send but something on microsoft server side looks like your provider uses is holding it up. It has re-tried 17 times so far.
Interesting. Obviously I receive email from a variety of people and organizations every day, including the emails from you folks, two so far, describing this security breach and the need to change my password. Perhaps somehow the email server views this particular email as spam or phishing or something. Not much I can do about it, in any case.
I have double checked my rules, junk, and trash and I still have nothing. Guess it’s a deeper issue that’s not going to get resolved here and I have to go make a different email to try it with?
This is absolutely a Plex issue and I suspect (or hope) to be a more niche problem with my account being a bit on the older side.
I have a secondary Plex account I use for testing to make sure stuff looks right for my end users setup with a Yahoo account. Went on there, it also said I was unverified. Sent the email, got the email, verified successfully, activated 2FA.
Fix for my account in this post having this issue was update to a different email (from @live.com to @outlook.com, both still Microsoft) and complete verification just fine. Activate 2FA, moved back to my original email. Still can’t verify on that email because the problem persists and I’m sure it’s not a priority to anyone but me, but now I at least have 2FA so the next time my password gets compromised I have slightly better security.
Ultimately I followed someone else’s advice and just changed the password on my server. Checking I see that I also can log into the website with that new password, so all is well and I haven’t had any of the problems people seem to be having about losing access to their libraries and having to reclaim the server or anything like that. Here’s hoping that remains true, as I have not tested thoroughly, just tried looking at one video.
For anyone looking to do this without waiting for the email, this worked for me:
Go to https://app.plex.tv
Sign in
Click on your profile icon in the upper right and choose ACCOUNT SETTINGS
Click the ACCOUNT link on the left side of the screen.
Under the SECURITY section click on the password EDIT button
Enter a new password, confirm it, enter your current password, and, if you have 2FA enabled, enter the verification code.
REQUIRED - check “Sign out connected devices after password change”.
