Version 8.7 of Plex for iOS breaks casting to other devices

Server Version#:
Player Version#: 8.7 iOS

My Plex app on iOS/iPhone 13 was just updated to version 8.7 today. I can no longer cast to my iPad or LG TV.

The cast menu displays the devices, but they look like they are greyed out for some reason. Previous version, on my iPad casts to the TV and to my phone fine.

I thought it might have been an incompatibility with versions, so I upgraded the iPad as well, and it too can no longer cast to the TV. The two devices (iPad and iPhone) can no longer cast to each other, despite being the same version.

I’ve got a similar problem with 8.7. The list of advertised Plex Players is limited to just one entry (previously all Plex Player would appear in the list) and that entry is greyed out so it can’t be remote controlled.

A bug in 8.7 I’d say. @sa2000 are you still our go to guy for the iOS client?

Same problem here… I can see my nVidia Shield in the “castable” list from app but greyed and unusable. On my wife’s iPhone with older version of Plex on it, everything was fine. But after update to 8.7 same behavior…

Please do something, my plex is just unusable like that :frowning:

Same here. iPads and iPhones with 8.7 show FireStick and TV and each other greyed out. One iPad still left with 8.6 and working like a charm.

No change in configuration anywhere, all devices on same network and properly logged in.

Please fix and restore the “remote control”

Hi folks, thanks for the reports of this issue, we believe we’ve found the cause and are working on a fix for the next release.

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and thanks again for all your reports.

Same on 8.7.1

Yes same

Does no one at Plex test these updates before sending out. Lately, little issues creeping in here and there, and features, like list mode being dropped, not all good improvements in my opinion.

Oh well, not that we can do anything about it.

Hey  Version 8.7.2 is out now which should resolve this issue. Sorry again for the issue, and thanks again for the reports!

like list mode being dropped

@cage123au_1 I’m not aware of anywhere we’ve dropped list mode, can you be more specific on what you’re referring to here? Should still be available in Library view when tapping the little 9-squares icon on the right and then tapping List View

OK, on the iPad app it is..

However, the list view I was referring too is in the PLEX HTPC on my iMac or Mac Mini, there is no 9 dots. The older Plex Media Player used to have a list view whereby you could also see in that list the # of episodes still unwatched. I cannot see that now.

Should I be using another PLEX app to be able to do this??

Even in the iPad app, in list view, it does not give you a number or any reference to what has been watched or is unwatched.

It was just a nice to have, but it now seems to be MIA.
