Version Unknown: undefined, unknown - Player could not render this content. Media might be corrupt

Hi,

I’ve got a new install of PMS (v1.2.7.2987) running on my Windows Server 2012 R2 as I have rebuilt my server. It’s sending to my Samsung TV (UE65F9000 F-Series (2013) model), using the LAN connection and the Plex App version 2.005 in the Samsung Hub.

I’m using the same video files (which are movies) as when I had my previous build of windows server (same OS version) but Plex is not playing some of the movies that previously worked.

For example I’ve got an mp4 of Apollo 13 and an mkv of Angry Birds that are both showing in the All Movies library with the thumbnails, directors name, cast, etc, etc. But it says VERSION UNKNOWN: UNDEFINED, UNKNOWN and AUDIO is blank.

The mp4 and mkv files have not changed but Plex doesn’t seem to be able to read them and gives an error message of “There seems to be a problem. Player could not render this content. Media might be corrupt or mediatype is not supported.”

BTW I’ve not upgrade my Samsung TV firmware since I bought it (last update was 9/9/2014), so that is not the problem as Plex previously worked fine on this firmware version, but I am updating it now.

Any advice gratefully received.

Make sure to keep Plex Server running over night after adding lots of content.
It may still be busy doing some ‘house cleaning’.

Go to the preplay page of one of the affected movies and let it Analyze again.
Wait a few minutes, then leave and enter the preplay page again.

Do also check the playability of this file with an external playere, like VLC.

Bonus points for analysing the file with mediainfo
(pay attention during installation, it comes with a ‘piggybacked’ installer which asks to install additional crapware. Make sure to set/clear the right checkboxes!)

Once it is installed, analyse the file, then go to:
File - Export - Text (Advanced mode)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I’ve found the problem… the video file had become corrupted :frowning:

It’s fair enough that Plex can’t read it as an external player (VLC in this case) couldn’t read it either.
