Hello,
I own a Synology NAS (DS716+II) which works great with the stock apps. Playing video though DS Video (Synology Video station) works great performance wise. All videos run very smooth. As well I get a similar experience with photos and videos over Photo Station (again Synology’s app). But the fact that these apps are not supported on my TV (LG 55sj850v) made me try Plex.
Feature-wise this app is amazing. Plex is so much more in terms of functionality but I just can’t get my head around performance. High-quality videos (1080p—H264) pause all the time and photos load very slow making the interface completely unresponsible. Seeing the CPU load being high I hoped that hw transcoding would fix it - bought premium, activated hw transcoding, CPU now stays at 20% but the issue persists. Network activity is below 2Mb/s, CPU around 20% so I can’t see any bottleneck anywhere. Basically, the same video playing with Synology Video Station on my TV is offering an uncomparable better experience than Plex App on the same TV playing the same video and transcoding to the same quality.
I’m out of ideas as I spent many hours lately trying to fix this in any way possible. At this point, it seems something is wrong with the Plex server app on the Synology because I can reproduce this on other players as well (laptop web Chrome for example).
Thanks for the help
EDIT: The above tests behave the same on WiFi and Ethernet.
