Is there a way to run Rasplex so that it operates as a thin client. What I mean is I’d like it to only display the screensaver when idle, and only play content sent from other PlexWeb clients… this way the UI on the TV itself is non-intrusive and requires no controls and content is played from either the desk PC, a laptop, or Android device as desired… basically I want to turn it into a ‘good’ alternative to a Chromecast but without allt he lag, constant disconnection, etc. If RasPlex is not the right option for this; is there one?
Thanks.
It already does, you can control it from the tablet or phone with the Plex App, cast it or even Air Play it
Maybe you can modify the skin so it doesn’t show any menu or options if thats what bothers you but I dont see the point of doing such a thing and you cant really cast content form youtube or netflix
Yeah, was kinda just hoping for a hidden switch somewhere that would hide the menus for non-admin users.
No hidden switches, sorry
But what you ask its easily doable, just mod the first level menus of a skin to take all options away. And for not locking yourself out you can use the xbmc-send command through ssh to get to the hidden options (as for example SYSTEM or PREFERENCES). You could even map it to a CEC key of your remote
But Rasplex is such more than a dumb Chromecast, I don´t understand why you want to take those features away and forcing you to use another device to control it
in the next aeon nox skin release you can customise / hide alot of all the openpht menus
I’d just set the screensaver to 1 min with a user pin and break the physical remote. Problem solved! =D>
