Video File is stuttering while playing !

Hi,
ich have a few King of Queens epsiodes, but they dont play normally like all other episodes and movies. It is not an issue with my internet connection (400 mbit). If u start the episode it is stuttering all the time but the sound plays normally. There is no loading circle, it just play.

Whats the issue with this file? Can u help me please?

do you have the subtitles enabled? many Plex clients have issues with those and end up transcoding the video. the same might be true about DTS but transcoding the audio track is eating far less of your CPU than transcoding a video.

how do you play this video? within your home network (wired/wireless), remotely (through the internet / via a mobile connection)? Unless you’re remote playing, the speed of your internet connection won’t matter – and if you do, it’s more about the upload speed :wink:

Hi Tom,
the subtitles are not enabled. DTS Transcoding was never a problem for my system, even with high bitrates over 3000.
There is also no transcoding of the video file activated. It just plays in original quality. My media players on PC don’t show this issues of stuttering (VLC, Media player classic home cinema).

I am using a wired home network.

The only way it works until now is to encode the file into x265 (HEVC). But that take like 4 hours per file. And i have a lot of files :tired_face:

that sounds weird…
can you check 2 things for me please:

  1. while playing that file, go to Plex Web https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/status/playing to confirm there’s no accidental transcoding -> when you hover over the poster representing the playback of this episode, Plex will display if it uses “direct play” or if there’s any activities on the server side
  2. as you pointed out the video plays fine when transcoded to h265… let’s create a bunch of samples based on the episode, ranging from full quality to poor quality (e.g. using Handbrake but stick with h264 – you don’t have to do the full episodes, 5 minute pieces should do; just name them like `King of Queens - s100e01, s100e02…). I’d like to see if the reason your h265 file works is because of the coded or because the resulting lower bitrate

Ok, I will have a look for these 2 things.

A thing I didnt mention is that I copied the files directly from the King of Queens bluray box. I only changed the container from m2ts to mkv. The video format is AVC anyway. Any problems with that maybe?

usually no problem at all… I’ve been doing the same with pretty much all my library.
