Video files that used to play without issue on Windows no longer work

I have had Plex for many years. I have thousands of video files that have worked for many years. Recently, I have encountered hundreds of video files that no longer work. The audio plays, but there is no video. This only happens on the browser app on Windows. Watching on Roku TVs still works, as does on iOS. I have changed nothing in my Plex settings. I update PMS every so often. I did update my server to Windows 11, but that didn’t immediately cause the files to no longer work. It feels like an update caused this. Is there any way to fix this? Because I don’t want to have to optimize my entire library.

Do you mean you’re trying to play those videos in the web app (using your browser)?

  • if so… are you using the hosted or bundled web app (https://app.plex.tv/desktop or http://[local IP]:32400/web)?
  • if not… which version of the player do you have installed on your machine?

When the files won’t play… are you getting an error message, does the player start and fail, or is it just not starting at all?

It happens using both the web access and the local IP access. I have never used the installed app player, as I don’t have admin access to my work computer. When I play some files, the audio plays but the screen remains black and no video actually plays.
