Video issues when transcoding audio

Server Version#: 1.20.5.3600
Player Version#: 5.5.1 (client), 5.1.1 (platform)

The video has some playback issues when I am transcoding the audio stream.

However the video stream is not being transcoded.

I do not have subtitles on. Anyone know what’s causing this? This only happens at certain points in the file, other parts play fine. The file plays fine on other players.

Note that need to have dts disabled since the LG CX does not support it.

Huh. That AC() looks odd. Can you reproduce and get me the PMS logs? I’m thinking it’s having an issue with the channel count. It could be the AAC codec as well. Check your TV’s audio settings and see what it has for handling multi channel audio. If you can, turn off support for AAC and enable AC3.

Sorry for the late reply.

Unfortunately my TV’s settings do not allow me to configure anything about audio codecs or multi-channel audio.

I have attached the logs. The playback in question happened at Dec 4th, between 10:59 and 11 pm. The XML info for the media file in question is titled The Prestige.xml.

Note that a different 5.1 DTS file seems to be playing fine. The playback info seems to be exactly the same for these other files. I’ll watch it all the way through to be sure but perhaps it is something about this particular file…

Your TV doesn’t have this setting?

Oh I didn’t know what I was looking for. It does indeed have a PCM/pass through option. However neither one fixed the issue.

. My TV doesn’t have any options for disabling AAC. I’m not using HDMI inputs, it’s the plex player on the TV.

I tested a different encode of the same movie and encountering different, less severe artifacting.

I have the same problem like yours. My research indicates that it’s an LG update cause the problem, because the LG plays encoded audio just fine until one day.
So now I check on all the audio formats but use only the “direct play” to play a movie. My LG player will see that it cannot handle the DTS stream, so it will switch to AC3 stream and play the movie. “Direct Stream” will not work.
However, if your 4k movie only has DTS track, the direct play will fail too. Maybe you can transcode and mux an AC3 track into that movie to fix it?

Well I have explicitly disabled DTS audio in plex settings. Other 4k movies that only have DTS audio tracks play the transcoded audio just fine without video issues. I could remux the movie with a different audio track but I would prefer not to.

I suspect this is a Plex/WebOS incompatibility which is why I would rather find a fix rather than reencode every file that has this issue.

OK, then your issue is different than me. You have the same WebOS and player, just different Plex Server. 3600 seems like an old release.
While all my movies with DTS track, once transcoded, will have the same serious problem of pictures, you seems only have one file that’s unplayable. Lucky you ! I wish I had only one file that’s not playing. I will just transcode the audio and quickly fix that one file.

server version nvidia shield - 1.21.0.3711 (released on Dec 2, 2020).

Same problem for atleast 1 maybe more titles on my LG CX, I’m not sure how bad yet, I only installed my CX.

Activity on the plex server shows video is not transcoding and audio is, which is as expected.
DTS off in the plex app as LG doesnt support it or even let it passthrough. as expected.

I wasn’t sure if its was my nvidia shield causing the issue or LG plex app. my CX shows same as above picture when transcoding audio for atleast 1 movie (so far)… Sounds perfect, video crap
for a few seconds every so often.

I have other movies with DTS that work fine and transcode as expected no video issue…
Video - 4k(HEVC main 10 HDR) > direct stream
audio - English (trueHD 7.1) > EAC3 - transcode.
