Tried to watch cruella remux 2160p on lg c1 65" and after few minutes into the movie the video gets broken up. On the upper left corner gets a scrambled image but the sound works just fine.
Yeah, its the audio transcoding problem like explained above.
If you play directly from a hdd to a nvidia shield tv(planinng to buy) will it work or it will be the same? (not going through plex, rather going directly usb->shield->TV.)
I’ve never tried using a different video player on the Shield, such as VLC, Kodi, etc and playing videos directly from a USB drive.
I use a Shield as my Plex client. No problem playing 4K HDR movies with dts audio, including those with PGS subtitles (PGS/VOBSUB/SRT subtitles direct play on Plex Android clients).
The Shield direct plays everything I toss at it.
Known issues:
Enabling SSA/ASS subtitles results in a video transcode. This is a limitation of the Plex Android/Android TV app due to its reliance on ExoPlayer, the Android/Android TV video player.
I’ve the older model, so no Dolby Vision support. The 2019 model has limited DV support.
If you do buy a Shield, get the 2019 Pro model. The 2019 tube model has known issues with high bit rate media such as 4K HDR movies. It is prone to audio drop outs.
My setup:
Shield Pro 2015 <-HDMI-> Denon 4300H <-HDMI-> LG B7 OLED
PMS runs on Synology DS918+
I have a jbl 9.1 soundbar, and only one eARC port, and is connected to TV.
good to hear that shield is gonna do the job. (pro latest version is what I was aiming at)
is there an option to do a side load app for webos to play from usb and have supported dts audio?
Hi, I’ve had the same issue on my CX. Really annoying and I hope it can be fixed. As I think has been said in this thread, it only happens in certain scenes and only happens when transcoding audio (despite being a visual glitch).
Of course you could convert the audio yourself beforehand if there’s no AC3 available on the disk, but probably the simplest and quickest way around this is using Tsmuxer to make a .ts file out of your 4K .mkv. On my X-men 2 remux this seemed to fix the issue and the problem scenes played fine even when Plex was transcoding audio.
