Hi Everyone,
I’ve been having recent issues with my plex environment. When playing content using the Plex App and the new video player, playback is choppy and the plex server shows high cpu utilization. However, when using infuse and the old player in the plex app, video playblack is smooth and cpu utilization is low.
I’ve tried looking at the logs and can’t find what is causing the CPU spike on the server when using the new player.
Any help in figuring out this would be really appreciated. My setup has been rock solid until recently.
That Dashboard/Activity screenshot shows ST:D playing Directly, so it shouldn’t be transcoding or even remuxing or causing high server CPU usage.
Just to confirm - those screenshots all go together?
(Minor - are you using the DLNA server? Disable it if you aren’t using it.)
Do you have any VPN running, or security software active on the computer? Little Snitch? Virtual machines/docker?
There are logs indicating that the server was also sometimes using a 169.254.x.x address, implying that there are network connectivity or DHCP server issues. Or is the server connected to multiple networks?
What’s up with 192.168.50.x and 192.168.25.x - are those all active on your internal network? One big network, segmented LAN? Multiple networks connected to the server?

Hey!
Thanks for responding.
The images were taken at the same time. Playback stutters when the CPU spikes. So the mac is connected to 2 networks. 192.168.25.x is the main network and 192.168.50.x is the network for the lutron system. I have no clue where the 169.254.x.x address is coming from :-(.
I’ve disabled ipv6 and DLNA. I disabled GDM but that didn’t resolve the problem so I turned it back on…
I was getting errors with the broadcast address so I rebooted everything and replaced the network cables on the mac.
