Video works in Web Browser, but not on firestick or android phone app

@anon5074910

I rebooted my whole network last night. I did not try forgetting/remembering the wireless connection. I will give that a shot too. One note: my firestick is hardwired. I run the firestick on an older TV, but I had run a hardwired LAN connection to it. So the firestick has the LAN dongle, so wireless is not an issue with that device.

Any updates? This still is an issue. I’ve done everything suggested. Please advise.

If I had to guess at this point I’d say its related to the media being transcoded. Maybe over cell is lower quality which might explain why its working and when over WiFi it’s trying better quality and failing.

Could you check the dashboard when it’s working and failing and compare.

It barely dents my bandwidth and my cpu barely budges. Something else is going on here. Im guessing there might be a cache I need to empty maybe

the error in your logs I am investigating is

02-04 21:34:20.948  i: [FFmpeg] [INFO] [hls @ 0x7ba74d0200] Opening 'https://192-168-1-30.7e80a021c5e14836a9acc99be64748a6.plex.direct:32400/video/:/transcode/universal/session/f2f2bb40f1fcb340-com-plexapp-android/base/index.m3u8?X-Plex-Incomplete-Segments=1' for reading

02-04 21:34:20.966 i: [FFmpeg] [ERROR] [tcp @ 0x7b65b95180] Failed to resolve hostname 192-168-1-30.7e80a021c5e14836a9acc99be64748a6.plex.direct: No address associated with hostname

02-04 21:34:20.966 e: [FF] Demuxer failed to open input from `https://192-168-1-30........

So FFmpeg cannot even open the file bascically. since it canot resolve the URL. The plex.direct URL is from secure connections, which DNS rebinding generally does not like which is why I was suggesting turning that off. but since you said you have that stuff disabled I am trying to think of what else it might be or how to get around it. I am assuming your server computers local IP is still 192.168.1.30. I suppose we can quickly test if on the right track by disabling secure connections on your server but I hate for that to be a solution.

Logs from a failed file play, followed by a successful file play… plex-log-maxroberts22.zip (315.2 KB)

question, you have a tv with a Plex app it seems TV UN65KU6300 which i am guessing is a Samsung. what is it’s IP address?

@BigWheel

Yes that is a Samsung TV, at IP address: 192.168.1.239/24

@BigWheel

Also, my server in PMS settings does not have that green lock next to, indicating the server is secure. Am I expressing that correctly?

The green lock means it is a secure connection with the client. What if your servers secure connections setting actually set to? It is either required, preferred or disabled

@BigWheel

It is set to preferred. And the client is set to use unsecured connections on the same network

can you disable it give it a minute then try again. I have a feeling it is something else just want to rule it out.

@BigWheel

I disabled it, and now the problem videos work on my phone.

Ive got the same issue.

Strangely enough old movies/shows works. But nothing new.

The transcoder starts, but stops after a few seconds and there’s no impact on gpu/cpu when the buffering starts on my tv (samsung).

Disabling preferred didnt change anything.

So for the time being I cant watch anything but old stuff.

hmm. I didn’t realize it was only newly added stuff. Can you try analyzing the file. Though you may be experiencing a different issue just same error message.

Hi,
Thanks for such a quick reply. I am at work, but will arrange that this evening.

Should I create a new ticket or can we try to troubleshoot it here?

Well if you turn off secure connections on your server and it works like the other users did then it is likely same issue and please post logs here.

If still not working then likely something else and please make new forum topic.

@BigWheel

I can confirm that with “Secure Connections” disabled, I can play all the videos on my PMS that were unplayable a day ago. Obviously this is not an ideal situation. Do you have any recommendations?

I think in one of your previous posts you were saying that this (disabling secure connections) was probably not THE issue but you wanted to rule it out. Do this info help you? Lead to more questions? B/c it clearly “solved” my issue, but would not be the ideal path forward. Thanks in advance for your response.

Can you turn secure connections back on and then after something fails get the player and server logs covering the same playback attempt.

The confusing thing right now is why some files worked and others didn’t.

@BigWheel

I will do that later tonight.

Yes, I agree. The finite list of files has no pattern to me.
