Just jumping in to confirm that I believe I have this issue as well ( for some weeks already), it started with some new files and have continued with many files (though I think not all all, though that might be an illusion). Older files works fine. The setup is a Firestick running PLEX, Samsung TV and the source is a Synology NAS server running on the local network (videos play fine from the NAS Plex App, but crashes on an Android phone, just like on the Firestick).
No change was done, it just started one day and I thought it was down to some corrupt codex or something, but the problem seem to be expanding. I’ll be following this thread, hopefully it can be resolved with an update.
So for me, I had just rebuilt my PMS. New OS load and then installed PMS. So for me, I thought it my be attributed to the install. But the files that don’t work are super random and they all have the same permissions. And none of the files are any oddball containers. And the fact that the video playback fails when I’m on MY wifi, but works on another wifi and works on the cellular data network. To me, that’s super odd. Did you do that test? Trying to play the videos from another network? And from the cellular data network?
One of my users getting this issue on his FireTV box was able to solve this by disabling the “Enable new video player” under that Advanced settings. And it was repeatable, Enable new player on = error and Enable new player off = no error.
I have 2 friends, both have the same AMLogic s905W box running Coreelec 9.2.1. I run the same on my S912 box, Im inside the lan and all my files work fine. My 2 friends with kodi+Plex addon are having issues playing some files but not all, and it only started in the last few days. I use plexupdate on a cron job (Ubuntu 16.04) so it updates itself each day if required. I think something recently updated on the server is the problem, not sure what it is.
I have the same issue with my video files playing on FireTV, Android Phone (Moto Z Play) and Android Tablet (Samsung S5e). (Error: “Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.”. On my Plex server I see that playback is not started at all (nothing in activity dashboard).
On the FireTV I could solve the problem by disabling the new videoplayer.
How can this be fixed on the Android Phone / Tablet (here I don’t find such an option)?
@maxroberts22 were you ever able to get the logs from server and player covering the same playback attempt. if possible a small sample file (like extract a chunk out to a new file with mkvtoolnix) that does the same thing may help me reproduce the issue and help the devs figure out what is going on.
I apologize, I’ve been slacking on getting these logs to you. I noticed there has been updates to 1.) the PMS itself, 2.) the Android app and 3.) I’m assuming the Amazon app. But again, I will try to recreate the issue and get the logs to you as soon as I can.
any news here? problem still exists on firetv sticks (4k) - randomely (new) videos produce this error message (remote) while it plays fine on non-android devices (windows, samsung tv, ios app)
new player is turned off. i have tv shows where 7 of 8 episodes play absolutely fine and one would generate this error message.
My user having this issue has also reported that each time there is a new Plex app update on his FireTV the setting to “Enable new video player” is reverted to back on.
