Videos not marked as complete when played in playlist

Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173 and newer
Player Version#: 8.27.1.29871 (8fa7950c) and newer

legit all version combos between the above and now experience this issue.

I’m re-reporting this issue since it’s still going on from 2 and a half years ago

If you play videos of any library type (TV, Movies, personal) the video doesn’t always get marked as completed properly polluting your “Continue watching” with content that’s already been completed. Original issue:

posted again:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a playlist of content, say enough to run while you sleep.
  2. Start the playlist by clicking “random” (not required, but I always hit random).
  3. Wake up in the morning to multiple items not being marked as complete
  4. other devices like Roku are not able to play the files as they see them as complete and just skip right over - however they also do not update the watched status.

I have a log attached. Episodes that failed to be marked complete overnight that may or may not be in the logs depending on how far back it goes:
Hey Arnold:

Hey Arnold:
S2E31 Eugene Goes Bad
S3E29 Phoebe Takes the Fall
S4E11 Helga’s Parrot
S1E1 Downtown As Fruits
S3E6 Gerald’s Tonsils
S1E3 Little Pink Book
S1E11 Heat
S1E25 Tutoring Torvald
S4E1 - Full Moon
S4E18 Deconstructing Arnold
S2E14 Hookey

Adventures of Jimmy Neutron
S3E8 Clash of the Cousins
S2E3 Grumpy Young Men
S1E23 Aaughh!! Wilderness!!

Happens for TV, Movies and the “other” media type. The “other” type is quite annoying as there’s no way to just mark everything as played/unplayed. Manually ticking off 60+ files is not exactly a user-friendly experience.

I’ll note that I’m also still seeing this issue. I’ve reported it a couple of separate times, but I’ve never gotten any engagement on the report, so it just gets automatically closed. Every time I go through the Continue Watching and mark everything as watched that has accumulated overnight, I consider rereporting the bug but never follow through. Maybe the third time’s a charm?

@meuserj I do plan on bumping this a few times and eventually re-posting just so you’re aware.

It’s quite sad. These kinds of super repeatable issues are the kinds of bugs most companies give interns & new guys to fix as an intro to their code base. There’s no excuse for it to have gone on this long.

I’m just commenting to keep this bug open. I’m still seeing it on a daily basis.
