Hello! Having some trouble with sharing my Plex Library with a friend. All of the videos on my server play just fine on my laptop, my phone, my friend’s phone, and through Rabb.it. When my friend tries to play videos on a very similar computer, and on their Plex app on their Xbox One, they do not play. The videos in question are contained in MKV. Both computers involved are running recent versions of Mac OS and were attempted in multiple browsers. My friend was able to get some AVI and MP4 videos playing on their computer, which leads me to believe that MKV is somehow at fault. I’ve attached logs.
Why would MKVs on my server cause them issues when they are able to use MKVs from their own server with no problems? Are there further things I can do to help diagnose the issue? I would like to give them one of the MKV files and see if they can run it off their own server, but have not gotten to do this yet.
Other will speak highly about MKV.
But I gave up on MKV 3 years ago as certain media didn’t play on various clients.
I decided then to convert/copy all my mkv to mp4 and still do.
Now I do not have the type of issues you and numerous others write about.
I wish I had the space to do so, but unfortunately I can’t afford to keep both copies of the file right now.
We also tested one of the files that wasn’t working – when the same exact file was placed on my friend’s Plex server, they were able to use it from all of their clients without problems, leading me to believe there is some sort of configuration issue here (i.e., nothing to do with the files themselves).
Some updates: I didn’t copy the whole error log, but when trying to play these files on an affected computer there is an HTTP Error code 400 and a Media element error code of 4. Why is the server returning an error code of 400 when the same files play just fine to other computers, and, when copied to a different plex server, are able to play fine to these affected computers with no issues?
Please let me know if there is more information I can provide.
