Videos with subtitles on won't play if Automatically Adjust Quality is on

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486
Player Version#: 9.13.0.37280

Basically continuation of this issue: Videos with subtitles turned on won't play

While on cellular or WiFi, with Automatically Adjust Quality turned on in the settings and not having the Max quality settings, but on something lower where transcoding is needed, when I play the video and have subtitles (.srt or .ass) the video will load indefinitely.

The only solution I found was to disable the option to Automatically Adjust Quality as per this comment

I was able to reproduce it on local network on WiFi (tested on 1 device):

  • In Quality settings:
    • Have the “Automatically adjust quality” option turned on
    • In Home streaming section
      • Turn off ‘Use recommended settings’
      • Set quality to 320p (0.7 Mbps)
  • Select any video that contains subtitles and has higher quality/bitrate than the one selected
  • Make sure to select subtitle track for this video
  • Press ‘Play’

For me, it will start to load indefinitely and Plex dashboard won’t even show that the item is being played, although it certainly does transcode the video as nothing is playing and ‘Plex Transcoder.exe’ is using the CPU and GPU up to 80%. (Just a note, the server is powerful enough to convert the video)

Overview of the Quality settings that result in the described behaviour

If it’s not reproducible, I can provide the app and PMS logs, but I’d rather share them privately.
