For the last few days my Plex hasn’t worked on either my Vizio or either Roku in my house. I have tried everything. Disabling the firewall, uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling a previous version, signing out of the apps and back in, everything I could think of. Nothing works. My Vizio app won’t load AT ALL. Where as my Roku will act like it is working, it will load the main menu. I will click “movies” it takes forever to load and I either get a error saying that the library isn’t available, or it loads but with out the menu to choose “Browse All” and the other options normally on the left of the screen. Even when it loads this way if I try to play anything it will play for 30 seconds and then freeze. Nothing I have done has worked. I have reset my internet, I have made sure my wifi is working correctly and going the right speeds. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong and why all of the sudden these apps are not working at all. I would really appreciate any help I can get.
There are many possibilities: without knowing more about your network setup, i just guessing
- you may want to try allowing insecure connections this is found under the server setting in order to test. and see if that works;
2)take a look at this page as it very helpful in trouble shooting: support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204604227-Why-can-t-the-Plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-Plex-Media-Server-
-
did the ip address of any of your equipment recently change?
-
Are other devices working correctly, ie can you browse to other computers on younetwork, youtube etc?
if not you may have network issues related to too much traffic ie broadcast storm, bad nic , etc
you may need to post more details about your setup and exactly what you have done to trouble shoot this issue
Having a similar problem with the Plex app on our 4K 60" Vizio TV. Was working just fine then Just spins for 3 min and then says “cannot connect to server” / “This server is currently not available”.
However, can connect to anything else online including, but not limited to, Netflix and Hulu…
All other devices can connect to Plex Server no problem.
No changes made to the server except the updates and new content (have had the server on for 3 years).
TV & TV Plex app up to date (current version)…
Tried everything including factory reset of TV!!..
Ports are also open!
Please Help!
have you tried the things in my list?
I have tried everything on that list. Nothing works to fix it. My Vizio app does the same thing as @eagle1468 said, it shows the Plex logo, goes to a black screen with the three yellow dots and sits there for a couple minutes and then says “cannot connect to server” / “this server is currently not available.” I have factory reset my TV, and it did the same thing.
My Roku app will load partially, it will load some of the images for videos, but not everything, and everytime I try to reload it it loads a little bit differently, sometimes it will even load basically correctly, but not very often, and the load times are long. Sometimes it loads everything except the menu for “Browse All” “Unwatched” and “Browse by Folder”. I have done everything for both the Vizio and Roku that I can think of. Factory reset both, no change. Uninstalled and reinstalled Plex on my PC, no change, Installed a previous version of Plex, no change, deleted all the Plex files on my computer (everything stored in “appdata/local” at least) and then reinstalled Plex, no change.
I am at my wits end with Plex currently. The most frustrating thing is that Remote connections are working just fine, it is only the local connections that are having problems. I don’t know why that is. I haven’t changed anything on my computer or added any new programs, and it was working just fine before. I have tried turning off my anti-virus/firewall to see if that was causing the problem. Everything is working fine except for Plex on both the Vizio and the Roku. When I’ve posted before I’ve been told I didn’t give enough information about the problem, but I don’t know how I can be any more specific about what is going on, I have never had an issue with Plex that either rolling back the version or uninstalling and reinstalling wouldn’t fix.
As for my network setup, I have a Linksys EA7500 router. I have my PC hard wired and both the Vizio and Roku are connected via wifi. My speeds have all been normal and haven’t had any issues with the internet. I haven’t gone into my router and changed any settings since I got it several months ago. No devices are having issues connecting. The only thing that keeps coming to my mind is that on my last computer I used the server name as “Oa” and when I got my new computer all setup I deleted the old server and set everything up on the new PC and named the server “Oa” again, I don’t think that this should have any effect, but maybe the app is trying to locate the previous server and having issues, that is just my thought though.

Yes, that and more.
BTW this is a REMOTE location all other REMOTE Locations having the same Problem With ONLY VIZIO TV’s!! Samsung’s and LG are just fine!!!
For this specific location (Trying to test and fix first) I have a VIZIO 4K 60" TV Direct wired to the NewWave Cable Modem 50Mbps Down 5Mbps up - Speed tests are fine.
All other devices at this location can access Plex fine through Wired and WiFi Connections! Only the Vizio has problems!
For Server location:
Server is connected to R600VPN v2 Gigabit Router and then into Newwave Business Premium Cable Modem Speeds 100Mbps Down and 15Mbps Up.
Have had this setup for 3 Years with NO Problems until January-ish 2017!!!
I have, just to test, put the server in DMZ and disabled secure connections completely - No Help
All other devices can connect wired and wireless.
The TV is direct wired.
The TV can connect to Netflix, Hulu and surf the web without any issues. Only the Plex app fails…
I have also removed the TV from the server and then re-linked it in the account.
*** NEW ERROR CODE AFTER TODAY’S SERVER UPDATE ***
This error is while Plex is trying to load
Click Plex App → “PLEX” Splash Screen → Loading screen → ERROR: “cannot connect to server” / “this server is currently not available.” → Click Retry → NEW ERROR: “Make sure server is online and the requested media is supported”
Retry / Go Home
No Matter if you click Retry or Go Home - It just continues the loop!
