Yes, the Plex team has ignored their user base in favor of their own driven desires. There has been little feedback and mostly silence as they know their user base is not happy. So there must be other reasons behind the decisions that they don’t want to divulge. They are not looking to better the user experience. They are changing to capitalize on desires of another entity not related to their existing user base.
It would be simple for them to restore the previous Plex version as a rebranded Plex Classic App. Jellyfin did this when their user base wasn’t happy with the design changes.
It’s awful. No thought in design or simple UI with the new app. Are Plex trying ot annoy us on purpose?? The worst version yet and they should admit their error.
Incorrect. They rolled out an update that was universally panned, much like this one. As a stopgap, they gave us what they called “Plex Classic” while they worked out a completley NEW take on the app which they called Uno. It was super solid, and it was THAT version which evolved into what we just lost.
So, no… the crap app they rolled out never grew to be accepted. It was pitched in favor of something far better.
I’d suggest you go carefully read the second link in my original post that you responded to. And maybe pay close attention to the words:
Additionally, we have temporarily released the previous Roku version, named “Plex Retro”, as an unofficial channel while we improve our current new channel.
They temporarily reverted to the previous version which they called Classic. TEMPORARILY. It wasn’t some new version they released as a stop gap.
They then went on to rework the release. It truly did not change that much. In fact it changed about as much as this new Experience changed during the Preview period. Something EVERYBODY could have a part in. Did you contribute during that preview? Or do you just feel entitled now to whine after having done nothing?
They issued the crap release. Backlash happened. Classic was temporary, yes… as an appeasement Then came Uno, which was the real fix, and it was nearly everything we’d asked for. Radically different from the crap they tried to force.
So you’re just being stubborn? You are willing to change to a completely new app and learn that, but not the new plex app? I think they call this cutting your nose to spite your face.
Show me one place outside of the initial release where they said “suck on this and we’re not rolling it back" Okay that wasn’t a real quote and I paraphrased.
Your assertion that Watch Together was going to be removed no matter what is based on what? People are just supposed to accept loss of features because they weren’t paying extra for them? Enshittification is real and as long as no one pushes back the trend rapidly accelerates.
Lastly you claim that Emby’s clients are an afterthought and that Plex is essentially the gold at the end of the rainbow. I tried Jellyfin and Emby many years ago before I settled on Plex and that was my experience then. Since I’ve migrated there’s not a single one of my users that hasn’t preferred the Emby interface over Plex’s upgrade. I wouldn’t be standing on this hill if it weren’t for my users. I’m perfectly capable of learning the new UI and even if I think it’s unintuitive and inefficient I could have dealt with it. My grandma telling me she couldn’t get it to work no matter how many times she tried was the final straw.
I’m not even here saying old people are allergic to new technology. She readily installed and used Emby. That’s all the argument I need to make. In the end, as I said, Plex couldn’t care less about me or my users. They’ll continue to do whatever is best for their bottom line regardless of how it affects their users.
I’m not inclined to search the forums for you. They’ve made it clear that the new interface is here to stay.
I neither said nor implied anything of the sort. What I wanted to make clear is that folks are going to have to adjust one way or the other. Either by moving to a new platform, or by learning how to leverage the new Plex interface.
Change is tough. I get it. I don’t particularly enjoy it myself. But there is so much non-constructive vitriol being spewed in these forums lately that it’s made it hard to even try to help people (the sole reason I visit these forums, for what it’s worth).
Yes, in the release notes. And they never addressed it again.
As for Watch Together you linked the post where they said it would be canceled. That’s utterly ridiculous. That’s like saying Dairy Queen’s Blizzard was always destined to be discontinued and citing the news report where they say they’re not going to make them anymore.
You’re right, I was being hyperbolic. Your statement clearly insinuated that alternative clients were never going to meet expectations after using Plex which is patently untrue. I moved from Chicago (Plex) to Boulder (Emby) to get away from gangs.
The new Roku UI is realliy unusable. WhereTF is my libraries?..horizontal? There used to be a very neat organized list that I could control..ITs a ■■■■■■ mess now. Who is the idiot who designed this???
Whenever I open Plex…im reminded of a great experience of the past..and then I start looking for what I want…then I just get pissed off and end up here in hope of some kind of acknowledgement or FIX!!!
As a programmer of 15 years…I know the UI is one of the most important elements of any app. On Roku you have basically made my experience with Plex unbearable. It’s less intuitive. It freezes. It has a really hard time with kometa created collections requiring me to exit and re-enter the collection every time I scroll past the current screen full of media. Social media, reddit and other sources are blowing up with complaints. Your users are not happy. Even my android experience has been filled with quirks and freezing up. But at least with android phones I can opt out of auto updates or sideload the old version of the apk. Roku does not allow me this workaround. So I have basically 3 choices. Buy a different tv box, apple tv or shield, or live with the horrible experience you have forced me into. Or go to another product all together. I have jellyfish in the wings waiting it come to that. But having Plex pass I expected better. All we’re asking for is a choice to roll back. Please put the focus on customer feedback and prioritize what we actually want. Thanks for listening.
Honestly, this smells more like executives poking their noses into the decisions and making the final call. No UI designer worth their salt would think this was a good idea.
