I definitely qualify as elderly if not plain old and have zero issues with this new UI. My age really isn’t that hard to figure out…
Be specific which paid features are now missing specifically as a result of this new UI? I haven’t found anything at all that isn’t there that I paid for.
According to various AI there’s an estimated approximately 5M Plex users on the Roku platform. There’s a whopping 204 votes, 261 likes and 1.5k views. Does that not indicate to you that maybe to many it simply isn’t that big of a deal? You’re also ignoring the fact people can only upvote an idea.
Either way as has been stated numerous times in this thread, the likelihood of them rolling back the unification is less than slim to none. So give the devs something to work with.
If you were to take the time to read through the entire original Beta thread when folks started testing it you’d see how often they changed things around, adjusted things, gave back some items like music. So it’s hardly like they ignore everything. Just be considerate and concise in how you ask would be my suggestion.
Would I have preferred they maintained the old UI, probably, but like I’ve said a few times, it’s not that hard to get used to at all. Even for us old folks.
As a soon to be septuagenarian, I find some of these comments condescending to my fellow age group. If there are subscribers that find Plex’s New Experience challenging, please don’t generalise. Invest a little time with the new apps and it will come clear in time of it value going forward.
Going backwards is dying, this is a ever changing World and if Companies like Plex Inc do not evolve with cost restraints to support the largest catalogue of devices, it will perish. All this nonsense of other software being better is just justifying BS. There is no other outfit with better apps than Plex. Yes some will support small number of devices, others that are a feature poor. In cases some that are better at certain features, then there are the open-source software that can be full of bugs.
Reality, if Subscribers are complaining they already know the obvious, yet a constant stream of complaints. Well that is a good sign. Why? For me that is so obvious.
So good luck to the app jumpers, this old dude has his … sorted.
There are just a lot of “Who Moved My Cheese” and “Henny Penny/Chicken Little” types on these forums who are never going to accept change. It’s always going to be worse, no matter how much it is improved. I truly hope that Plex stays the course and continues to improve the new experience. In my experience it looks much better and the navigation, while taking a bit of time to adjust to, is fine.
People don’t like change, in general. When it happens, they rationalize why it’s worse than “the old way.” And then they use confirmation bias to solidify their beliefs. Never mind the fact that this is a support forum where people are intended to voice their concerns, not their advocacy. People are much more likely to complain than compliment. No one seems to get that here.
This feature suggestion is a clear example of this. Where is the groundswell of support? Why aren’t there thousands of supporting votes? It’s been cross-posted in every Roku client complaint thread I’ve seen.
[Edit]
I’ll add, that any time someone is supportive of the new interface on these forums they’re generally shouted down in the echo chamber that this has become. I’ve recently experienced this myself, being labeled as a “Plex sympathizer” because I didn’t toe the dissenting line. It doesn’t pay to advocate for this new interface because you’re going to be made to feel “outside.”
I already know what the response will be. They will bring up Plex removing Watch Together, even though that was a free feature. They will rationalize this as “I paid for a Plex Pass because of this feature”.
Meaning:
Gaslighting is the manipulation of someone into questioning their perception of reality. The term derives from the 1944 film Gaslight and became popular in the mid-2010s. Some mental health experts have expressed concern that the term has been used too broadly. In 2022, The Washington Post described it as an example of therapy speak, arguing it had become a buzzword improperly used to describe ordinary disagreements.
Are you sure you have that correct, or are you just in disagreement, definitely sounds likeit.
I miss the old, civilized forum. I recall there was, at one point, a Plex Pass-only forum where technical issues were discussed—and more often than not, solutions were found.
Back then, many feature requests were acknowledged, worked on, and eventually delivered.
There was also a genuine sense of community, which I find increasingly hard to come by now, drowned out by constant complaints and an often absurd sense of entitlement from some users.
I tried emby this AM. I have quite a few libraries and files and had it all up and running witin an hour. I have always used plex but the new inteface promted me to try something else.
Don’t understand your lodgic , its designed to work from home page and at times visit a library. Working from libraries for everyday use was the way it was used many years ago.
Yes the goal to 500 is definitely going slower than expected. But it’s moving right along. I’m not one to say I’m switching to jellyfin or Emby. I’ve been with Plex a long time through their highs and lows. Emby has amazing support that’s very responsive, but unfortunately has a mediocre interface. Jellyfin I’m not sure of. Plex is the most refined, but on the downside has communication issues with their community and they like to release things before they’re ready. The facts are the new interface requires more clicks, things have been taken away that were on the previous interface, and it’s not super stable on older Roku devices (2+ years). The interface does have some nice features, but without communication from Plex, we don’t know if they’re going to bring back things they’ve taken away as well as if they’re going to simplify the movement process in the new interface to reduce the amount of clicks. I’m not going to guess on the amount of people that dislike or like the new interface as no one knows except for Plex:). We can go off of the votes versus views to get a average percentage but that’s not going to be accurate. All we can do is keep voting or hope that we hear something from a Plex employee to address the concerns of the community!
I already switched to Emby. I’m just here to see how long Plex can go completely ignoring the valid complaints of their users.
Maybe people are right and us “complainers" are in the minority. Does it make us less important users because we’re dissatisfied? Dissenting opinions are invalid if they express displeasure at the direction you’re headed?
This has become less of a people who like the new interface vs people who don’t scenario. It’s become a question of why plex feels like it can completely ignore any subset of their user base with legitimate complaints.
Take for example the removal of the watch together feature. That’s not an aesthetic aspect of the app but a function many users utilize. Plex ignoring their customers is the biggest issue arising out of all of this.
Maybe losing me (admittedly a small loss considering I had a lifetime pass) and the four or five of my users had monthly subscriptions isn’t a big deal. Or maybe Plex should recognize that if a few people are willing to leave even with the significant amount of effort that entails that a lack of communication can have repercussions. Probably not because I’m small potatoes. But ask the Irish what happens when a lot of those small potatoes disappear.
Good luck with that, I hope it works out! My experience is that their clients are a second thought to them at best, but I’m in the Apple ecosystem. Maybe it’s better elsewhere.
Plex hasn’t ignored anyone. They’ve responded several times in forum posts explaining their intentions and their desire to make the experience better. Them having not switched back to the older interface isn’t the same as ignoring the feedback. It’s a choice they’ve made. It’s unreasonable to expect them to comment in every dissenting forum thread. That would become their entire job and no “real” work would be done.
Watch Together’s removal was going to happen regardless of whether a new interface were implemented or not. It’s not related to this conversation. These new experience apps were just the first to see it actually gone.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Moving to Jellyfin (or Emby, in this case) expecting a better client experience is like moving from a small Midwest town in the US to New York City expecting a lower crime rate. You’re just punishing yourself, not Plex.
