I really hate when changes are made, simply for the sake of making a change. The original app was intuitive, easy to use, easy to sort, perfectly user friendly. This new system is a hot mess. Did someone really think that this was an improvement over the old system, or was it just a dev trying to justify their paycheck?
The same sort of thing happened on Google+, just prior to its downward spiral. They too made a whole slew of "aesthetic changes that nobody wanted. However, in their case, they didnât also interfere with functionality. I use Plex a great deal, and I have been doing so since 2013.
First, I need a whole new app for music. Okay, while I was surprised, I could understand that. With growing needs and updates, I could see how it might be required to split that off into its own app.
These newest changes though? There was no need for them. All it does is make the whole system less user friendly. Please, provide some sort of option to toggle between the user interfaces. I mean, if some people actually like the new interface? Great. Let them use it. However, there are quite a few of us who hate this hot messâŠ
You can still tell the server to scan. You have to hover on the Library bar, then hit â*â on the Roku remote to get to the menu. From there you can request a scan. That said, its one thing that works. Iâve had so many other issues with this app that it is unbelievable that they released it to the public.
Ive had tons of problems with viewing Collections of Movies or TV shows. Try going into a media item from the collection and then backing out and try to view more items in the collection⊠the Collection skews halfway off the screen and you cant easily get it back. Usually have to restart the entire Plex app at that point. There was very minimal QA/QC done on this application and it shows.
Thank you. Before it was in the hamburger or 3 dots for that library. Even though I scan for changes frequently, I was forced to wait until it happened when not at home.
I am usually ok with change or at least with minimal complaint. Amazon kind of had this type of setup going back a long time. Never liked it. Never wanted with age. Then Netflix. I told them to go F themselves, I hate it so much I wonât pay. Now Plex. Nothing like trashing your reputation. Nothing like running naked, full steam through a wall of bees into a Bearâs den covered in flowers and honey.
I think itâs referred to as endshitification, the wasted whitespace, rounded corners, and animated menus that no one asked for, and slow the user from getting to their destination.
Also a Plex Pass user. Been Using Plex for years and the interface was fine. Maybe a little slow, but compared to this new interface, it was a far superior. At least the old interface could be fixedâŠ. Not entirely replaced. Too many people rely on things to be stable and unchanging. Switching interfaces so abruptly is not only jarring, but feels like you Devs arenât paying attention to your loyal, paying customers.
âPrioritization of their stuff over my stuffâ (Wish I had said this) plus adding it between all my stuff is just crazy! Whoever came up with this thought process obviously has an IQ of only two digits. Take my Plex Pass money and in reward I get all this B.S. thrown on my TV plus Iâve disconnected all my Rokuâs (4) as itâs become unusable and more of a pain in the ass than Plex is worth at this point. Whereâs my PlexPass REFUND?
Itâs time to ditch this horrible POS UI or Iâll find something different for my use!
Personal preferences aside, the new UI on Roku devices is bad in 2 ways. It doesnât respect TV overscan, causing several things to be cut off the screen (my TV has no way to adjust), and is slower than the old UI. I used to only have to wait maybe half a second for video info to load, now I have to wait about 5 seconds. Not the end of the world, I know, but how does such a difference happen?
Have you guys tried out the new Plex preview on roku? Everyoneâs feedback has helped make this possible. Itâs not a rollback, itâs still an update but one that actually I believe works. Thank you Plex for taking the time to listen to your customers. Theyâre looking for feedback so my only feedback would be maybe to have more of a customizable home screen and maybe the white text with black background can look a little more refined in the navigation area. Other than that, Iâm happy with this update in Plex preview and believe this is a great compromise!
This isnât a solution, it only solidifies the direction that Plex is going, which is based on executive decisions (the money people) and not user or developer feedback. Without the 2 way communication between the users and developers the solution is dead; sad to see what has happened but the writing was on the wall with the C series funding.
I have no idea what âclassic plexâ was like but this garbage dump of a UI is embarrassing. Itâs giving Netflix a run for itâs money at this rate. I go to the show page in the interface and I can click 45 things I donât need and I can RESUME the episode Iâm on, but I canât quickly click on EPISODES to get me where I need to be. I need to click on a bunch of non obvious additional options to get the GD thing set up. I donât know what factory of monkeys you have making the blurst interface in modern computer interaction but you need to stop whatever marketing idiots are screwing with the software engineers and let them build a fast fluid interface that makes sense.
Who accepts this? This post comes off as a complete shill. They sort of addressed one of the main concerns and youâre raving about how itâs a great compromise and theyâre âtaking the time to listen to [their] customers.â Absolutely ridiculous.
Theyâre completely ignoring their customers and tiny changes that almost give us back what weâre lost isnât a compromise. Either youâre being paid by them or are woefully naive.
They ignore their customers on almost everything. That wasnât what this vote was for. What feedback do you have? They gave us back fast menu navigation and recent channels. Your needs might be different. Post it on their feedback page.
