VPN Hassle or Separate System

I have discovered since installing a VPN on my system, that my PMS isn’t accessible to family and friends as it once was.

I have vacillated about going through what appears to be endless work to enable access through the VPN, or simply moving my PMS to another system on my network.

I am thinking this would be much easier, and much less hassle to get up and going.

Can anyone that has gone through either process give me their feelings on the subject?

I believe using a VPN changes your IP address and messes things up. Are you able to have the VPN and server run on 2 different machines?

Yes, I don’t have to have the VPN set up on the router, just on each machine that needs it…Nor do I want to buy a specialized router just for the VPN…

I used https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/62h6ae/want_to_use_plex_behind_a_vpn_look_here to bypass the vpn for Plex.

Do you use OpenVPN or another VPN?..If another, did you have to modify these instructions in any way, outside of any obvious references to OpenVPN?

I use PIA and didn’t need to modify any of the instructions.
