I was wondering is there anyway out you can use your vpn with synology I use the network to use the vpn in but is there anyway I can get to my plex remotely while using vpn outside ? To get to the synology. It just everytime I turn on the vpn I can’t get access to it.?? Is there anyway to bypass that and some guide needed please
You face the same problem as most do. The VPN provider must provide Port Forwarding from their port 32400 to your port 32400 (inbound).
Without that, PMS cannot have proper Remote Access through the VPN -OR- some very exotic split networking. There are some who claim to have done it but it does seem to still be VPN-provider dependent.

so theres noway i can fix my synology with plex to do a VPN remotely from outside with this.
Without the ability for Plex.tv to broker an inbound connection to your server (where your phone, tablet, or remote browser somwhere is located), there is no way it will work because the VPN provider is not permitting the connection.
I have this working with PIA but I’m not sure how or why lol It originally wasn’t working but then I disconnected my VPN. Made the Plex connection work then reconnected my VPN and bingo. I tested it today and watched a video no problem.
My VPN is setup with PIA as an OpenVPN to Netherlands, I’ve manually specified Plex to point to port 32400 even though I think it does this by default and I think I forward the port on my BT HUB to my NAS.
Give it a go and let me know if it also works for you. Remember to make the Plex connection with the VPN connected then try connecting the VPN. If it doesn’t work it could be the no-ip DDNS that’s helping me. I don’t know

How did you do that cause I’m using my synology ds414 it got a in build app for plex can you guide me tho it and I don’t think I got a BT hub
Sorry to bump this, but i think it might help others. I also had a problem with PIA VPN, Plex and Synology (in my case DS718+) and can confirm @Lockie’s method works. Turn off VPN on Synology, make sure the connection works with a specific port in PMS which you also forward in your router, turn on VPN on Synology and the remote will still be working. Thanks @Lockie!
