WAN App.plex.tv access to QNAP

I’m a long-time Plex Pass member using T-Mobile Home Internet (Nokia 5G21) as my ISP along with a Sophos UTM 9 firewall. A QNAP TVS-671 with the latest Plex Server sits behind the firewall.

Unfortunately, the T-Mobile device has no bridge mode / passthrough…resulting in a double-NAT situation. Previously I was using Spectrum in bridge-mode, but uptime on Spectrum was bad.

If I login to app.plex.tv/desktop when behind the Sophos firewall, it works great. If I try this outside the Sophos firewall, it says that my library is not accessible.

I appreciate that Plex cannot support the infinite permutations of network implementations. With Spectrum, I was happily using Plex’s Remote Access. I know Plex Remote Access will not work in the T-Mobile configure since I can’t even do port forwarding on the T-Mobile Nokia device. So I have Plex Remote Access turned off.

Secure Connections on the Plex Server remains set to ‘Preferred’. I’ve researched this and have tried everything I know to do.

I would greatly appreciate your advice on how I can see my library when I log into app.plex.tv/desktop from outside my network. Thank you.

Server Version#: 1.22.2.4264
QNAP OS: 4.5.2.1594
Sophos UTM Firewall: 9.705-3

As far as I know, you’ll need to get port forwarding to work.
Any port you like to the QNAP:32400, I’ve used public port 80 for instance. So it works on most guest-networks (with only ports 80 and 443) as well.

You can make double nat work IF you manually align all the ports:

e.g.

WAN:external -> NAT1:portx -> PMS:32400

  1. Manually specify port = what-you-want
  2. Ignore the internal traversal as PMS is concerned.
  3. Reachability test only needs packets to “WAN:external” forwarded to “PMS:32400”

I appreciate both responses. Unfortunately, the obstacle is TMobile’s implementation of the Nokia 5G21 modem device. TMobile has disabled nearly all functionality, including port forwarding. A bummer for Plex and so many other things…

Thanks again.
