Trying to set up Plex on a new TV. Went to my desktop to enter the code on the TV and juxtaposed two characters. Damn! A popup says my account is locked and to click on chat to unlock it. OK. Connected to the chat person and was told it was a networking issue. Um… no, it’s not a networking issue. I build and work on computers for other people, so I’m not clueless. She says a “technician” is going to call me. I answer my phone and he starts trying to get me to download Teamviewer! WHOA! Back up THAT bus… I do not allow anyone to take charge of my computer. Dude hangs up on me. WTF, PLEX!!!
Above was NOT Plex
So strongly suggest you check your PC for malware, since I guess your browser has been compromised
There is no such thing as Plex Chat. Do you recall which URL you were at? I don’t mean for you to go there again but maybe your browser history still has the URL.
( also suggest checking computer for malware)
Multiple scans already done. I had gone to the plex.tv/link page. The popup showed up when I entered the code on my TV. Unfortunately, I had juxtaposed two letters, so I didn’t think too much of the popup saying my account was locked.
Unfortunately, Plex does not make it easy to go to the link on the TV to enter the code on another device. A search brings up several iffy links and although I tried on the office Plex website, I couldn’t find it. One of the links had a Wordpress extension. Others used a dash instead of a dot. This makes me wonder how many other people wouldn’t have known to tell these scammers to go blow smoke when he started talking Teamviewer. As I said in my original post, I build computers and fix them for other people, so I have a bit more knowledge than the average user.
