While trying to add my plex to a new tv I received my code. Once I tried to enter it on the computer website which had a plex logo some one named Mike wanted the code again and what type phone I had and wanted my full name and asked to to log into my play store. I hung up. I never have had that happen. Was this a scam?.
It doesn’t sound normal, that’s for sure
Where did you find the web address to enter your code on the computer?
It should be https://plex.tv/link
Check your browser history to see if that’s the exact one you entered
How exactly did you get from entering your code on the computer to talking to someone on the phone?
I went to gttps://plextvslink.com and it asked me for my code. Once I entered it said I completed the first step and needed to call 1-866-270-0865. A Indian man asked for my code and I questioned him and he said his name was Mike and I needed to give in the code. He asked my full name then he asked what type phone when I said it sounded fishy and Indian people aren’t named Mike he said I either gave him the information or I couldn’t connect my roku tv to my account. I said no I was hanging up. Then I went into my saved items and found my old link to put the code in and it connected my tv to my plex on the computer. Thats when I remembered there was a discussion page. and I wanted to get this out there
The logo on the page was Plex new logo imagine
Ok yeah that looks like a scam. They’re just using a URL that’s close enough for people to make a mistake.
Glad you realized it and it’s good you reported it, thanks
Sorry @tom80H you’re the only one I’ve seen around here lately tonight. Can you let someone know about this?
This is just some information for you to try and help avoid certain things like this in the future (especially in regard to stuff that could be potentially more dangerous like financial scams and what not).
Based on the favicon of that site, it’s a Wordpress site:
This is what any official Plex site would have (including the actual link site):
Now, all that said, having the official favicon is not going to guarantee that the site is legit also, but it’s one of a few things you can do look at to help determine if the site is legit.
Another thing is that Plex uses the .tv domain and the site you used is using a normal .com domain, so that’s a red flag.
In the case of Plex, as far as I am aware, there is no phone number available to contact them, so, at least for Plex, a website giving you a phone number is another red flag.
Now, this next point will be more difficult if English is not your native language or you are just not very good with English, but look for grammar and spelling mistakes.
In the case of the website you mentioned, after entering a code, the page you are redirected to has a spelling mistake of for “verification” spelt “verifacation” with 2 correct spellings of the word. Now, again, that doesn’t necessarily mean anything as people do make mistakes, but multiple mistakes are really what you want to look for. Normal mistakes tend to be corrected, but multiple could potentially be a red flag.
One last thing related to this that I noticed is actually the URL of the redirected page (and this was only because I was inspecting the source and clicked a link there which is what made me notice). If you look at the page you are redirected to after entering a code (which by the way works for just a single character, another red flag), you are redirected to gttps://plexlinks.com/error/
which as you can see has error. However, based on the page you are redirected to, it would not indicate that there was an error, which makes it strange to have error in the URL (and something most developers wouldn’t do.
Edit: Another thing I noticed that you should look for is where the links actually point to it within a site (or email in case that was the route it came). In this case what I noticed is that they mentioned plex.tv/link throughout the main page but instead of the link actually going to https://www.plex.tv/link, the link goes back to the site. They also do the same thing with a link on the words “Plex TV” which, at least in my opinion, is a red flag.
Going to ping @BigWheel since they have an employee badge just to make sure this gets noticed.

Thanks so much for the input. We less computer wise people lean on you alot
thanks for the ping. not sure why i did not see this before. That one is known and we are working with lawyers to get it taken down, unfortunately the process is slow. And we are trying to get our site to come up first when folks use google to search for it instead of typing in link on screen. Going to be adding QR codes to apps as well folks can scan which should be in Smart TV apps already ( but we know many may not understand how to use QR codes)
