Watch Together streams crash if both participants are using roku devices

My partner and I regularly watch movies and shows on my Plex server that I host myself on a Mac Mini. We have done so since November. She would watch from her laptop in the web app and I would watch from my TCL Roku TV.

As of late, every Watch Together session we have results in unberable buffering times before ultimately crashing with a message along the lines of “Your server was not powerful enough to stream this content” (I may have butchered the message, but I did not take a picture of it when it happened).

These crashes only occurred after my partner starting using a Roku Express to join Watch Together. The crashes only happen when we both stream from Roku. Ultimately, I always switch over to my Windows desktop and host the watch together session from the webapp and the stream is flawless thereafter.

In summary, my partner would watch from the web app and I would watch from Roku and there were no issues. When we both watch from Roku, the stream crashes. When she watches from Roku and I watch from the web app, the watch together stream does not crash.

Bump. No luck with getting this fixed. I tried spinning up a Ubuntu Server VM and hosting Plex there to see if it made a difference, but the issue persists. For the time being, I’ve resorted to running a 35ft HDMI cable from my PC to my roku TV. Anytime I want to use Watch Together, I have to play it on the TV from my PC instead of using the native roku plex app.
