Watched Checkmark VS Unwatched Orange Corner

i spoke too soon. an hour ago i could still see my unwatched ep count in chrome looking at app.plex.tv, but they’re gone there now as well :frowning:

Thanks. Just to 100% confirm its expected that for partially watched seasons/shows on the show level details page not to have any badge ? Reason I’m confused as the text does say episodes and season lists are always shown. I would have thought the badge count would show on the details page.

Seems strange (at least to me) that it looks like this

and not

Anyhow. Just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. If we are then okay.

I have an nvidia shield and am using it as a plex client. I’m running version 10.17.868 of the app. In the settings → experience section, there is an option for the watched indicators and it is set for TV and Movies. If I pull plex up over the web on a PC, the web gui does have the watched counters on the TV Show thumbnail, just like it used to.

Unfortunately though, on the Shield, it does not display the counter on the show thumbnail. Instead, it will show it for the season, but not the upper show level.

It sounded like somebody had an issue like this on another client. I’m wondering if anybody else is seeing something like this on their shield as well.

@qw741234 There is an issue on Android where Shows are not displaying the unwatched episode count when TV Shows or Movies & TV Shows are selected for the Watched Indicator setting.

If anyone else is seeing a similar issue, please make sure to provide sufficient details. Which client are you seeing it on and what is the client version.

@anon5074910 When the Watched Indicator setting is set to None or only Movies, any setting option that excludes TV Shows, then this is expected behavior. Thanks for the feedback!

If that’s expected behavior, whoever approved it has no idea how to make a good user experience or intuitive UI.

Ditto. This is a major usability issue. Plex needs to fix this ASAP.

Is there anything you need from me? I have the watched indicator selected but they are not displaying on the posters. I’m running it on an nvidia shield, version 10.17.868.

On the Web UI, OSX client, and mibox, the indicator works fine. All the same plex user as well.

You may have tried this already but just in-case. Have you actually fully restarted the plex app on your shield? This account level setting if changed requires the app to be restarted to pickup the change. My guess is the android app is just running the background and has not been restarted so has not refreshed your settings change. I seen this myself yesterday and the changed setting did not take effect until plex on the app was killed and restarted.

If your not sure how to do that on the shield, give the shield a reboot for good measure as that will restart it for sure  If you have tried that already then just ignore this comment.

I did a full reboot this-morning and there was no change on the shield. Tried the ‘clear cache’ and no change. Then got desperate so I did the ‘clear data’ and force stopped the app. Started the app again, linked it to my plex account, and still no change. There are still no unwatched numbers on the tv show posters. Tried to login as the admin user instead of the regular user and the numbers are not showing up under admin either.

I checked in the settings and watched indicator is still set to “Movies and TV”.

Because it’s unsightly. I see what you did here Plex. Bravo! Way to pacify a thread. Man. I’m feeling really frustrated since yesterday. Had to shoot out an update to the family thread because everyone thought something was broken.

This is still broke. Still no unwatched episodes counter on my TV shows. As bad as this was I assumed it would’ve been fixed by now.

The fix for this will be included in the upcoming Android release 10.18.0.

And if you just can’t wait, the beta released today has the fix as well (confirmed on my onn. 4K Android TV puck):

Broken on FIrestick as well! This change doesn’t even make sense.

I cannot believe how many people, including myself, are using this forum for the first time to provide feedback on what has got to be the most unnecessary, regressive update to this application that I’ve seen in my nearly 3 years of using it.

Undo this crap already. I’m about to abandon ship for Jellyfin or something (which I really prefer not to do).

I installed and tested this beta version. NVIDIA Shield Pro 2019, Plex.tv app version 10.18.0.939.
While this is a step in the right direction, we are still lacking customization.
Currently, this beta version DOES return unwatched episode counts to series cards. However, if you were to set Experience → Watched Indicators to OFF, this completely removes BOTH the completed checkmark as well as the unwatched episode counter.
I realize this is a beta, and I do concede that it’s better than before, but we really should be able to customize what markers appear on a series card. I do not want completion indicators on my series cards, I only want the unwatched episode counts like it was before. Right now it’s all or nothing.

Hopefully this is a step towards identifying how they can allow the selection of series card identifiers. Like others have posted, many of us have opened this forum for the first time to voice our displeasure over the recent update. A change as small as this has massive ramifications to user acceptance.

Thank you Plex staff for your dedication to this particularly hot issue, please continue working towards the proper solution.

Just another first time forum user forced here due to poor decision to make this change. You guys may as well hide all of the unwatched behind a few more filters and only show the watched movie and tv shows with a large green check mark… oh wait…

Give your users some choice. I for one will now start looking to change my system and where I will spend my money.

This was the first thing you look at when you login and determine what you want to watch. How could this have been tested and approved as a valid UI change that helps anyone? At least give us an option.

Posting on the forums for the first time due to this change. IMO it makes no sense to hide the number of unwatched items. My general flow is to open Plex, check if any of the shows I care about have the yellow unwatched box on them. If there is then I’ll watch it, if there isn’t then I won’t.

I suspect that most people have a similar use case. I think that this change getting submitted signifies a larger problem with how Plex rolls out new changes. I would expect a product of this size to canary its rollouts to a set of users and see if any major KPIs (time on Plex, minutes watched) are affected.

I really hope that this change is either rolled back, or an option is given to go back to the original behavior.
