Watchlist feature not working for 3rd party Metadata Agents?

The watchlist feature seems to have finally made it onto our servers but from what I can tell, those only seem to work for the official Plex Metadata Agents, not for custom ones like my MyAnimeList Metadata Agent.

I kind of expected this because there was an official comment a while ago on Reddit in which people were asking for the watchlist and the response was “yes, we are working on it but they would require the new Metadata Agents”, this left me with more questions because if the watchlist feature would “need” the new Metadata Agents, how would that interact with custom metadata Agents.

Well, apparently they don’t.

I’m sorry Plex but I always read that “you want to keep supporting custom metadata Agents” but everything I can see goes against them or at least excludes them from being used with features that should be available for all of the content on your server.

Apparently, the Watchlist feature depends “on the GUIDs that the new agents use” which the 3rd Party Metadata agents do not according to a comment I got from a Plex Employee here.

This is really unfortunate.

I would really like to see what your plans is with 3rd Party metadata agents, even if it is to not allow them because then I can find another way or look elsewhere.

Not only that, but if we have curated Movie or TV show libraries that have tutorials or anything customized with our very own metadata, we are not able to add ANY of that content to the WATCHLIST at all, which renders the entire watchlist feature pointless unless the content can be identifiable through Plex’s scanners and agents.

What a load of :poop:

:face_vomiting:

Watchlist should not be held back just because of the metadata issue. Our media libraries shouldn’t be held hostage just because Plex can’t figure out what’s not identified from the metadata.

I noticed today that the watchlist is no longer working for content that you have in your local libraries. It is mostly useless to me if it only lets me select streaming services. It was very convenient to have this option, and it totally blows having it taken away like this.

Works for me still, so it’s not taken away. Have you asked for support on this?

What device are you using? I have checked on the web and the desktop client. I have not checked on Fire TV or Roku yet.

I added that to the watchlist directly from my library.

That was a screenshow from, um… Plex hosted web app, version 4.82.1.

I just tested it out, it also displays my server for the desktop Plex-for-Windows, version 1.45.0.3013-1676042f. (a duplicate entry for this, I just reported that. It’s unrelated to this though)

On both of those players, I am a managed user. Just in case, I tested being the admin account on Plex web hosted, and it also displays there. Curious.

It was working for me, and I am also testing it on the web app 4.82.1. It just all the sudden stopped working today.

I think I will reboot my server and see if that fixes it.

After restarting my server it began working again. I am using the qnap server software.
