WD My Cloud Home 4TB Drive has been running on local network via Plex for 4-5 months now, However yesterday (April 12th) Plex has decided it cannot locate the Drive. The Drive is still active. I can access via my Laptop and Cloud Apps’ All files are OK. However Plex no longer can locate.
I’ve confirmed that I have the latest software. I’ve logged out and back in again, I’ve uninstalled all Plex software and reinstalled again but still Plex is now refusing to Locate My Cloud Drive. I’ve rebooted my router and also rebooted the WD My Cloud Drive also. I’m out of options.
Does anyone have any idea How I can get Plex to locate the WD My Cloud Drive
Do you run your PMS on that WD MyCloud or are you only using it as storage for a PMS installed on a different system?
If the PMS is installed on the NAS… can you access it through its local IP address? (http://[WD MyCloud IP address]:32400/web)
Warning! : If you later choose to Disable the Plex service, that will also remove all installation data. Your media will remain, but all information about your library setup, watched status, etc. will be removed.
Also… what exactly are you experiencing as “no longer visible on Plex”? Do you mean you can still access Plex but the movies are gone?!
Hi Tom, Thanks for responding and sincere apologies for my delayed response.
WD MyCloud is connected directly to My Singtel Modem Router which makes it visible on my network. I can view all files via my laptop on the network. I can add/remove files and I can watch any programs or movies that I want to watch on my Laptop. The laptop is connected to the network via RG45. All WiFi is switched off.
The purpose of using the WD MyCloud was to be able to view these programs and moves on my LG TV. This has worked very well since installation last November. However last weekend the App on The TV could no longer locate WD MyCloud and neither could my laptop via a Plex App. However I was still able to add/remove files directly as the WD MyCloud is really just another hard drive that my Laptop can manage and view.
I removed all Plex Apps from my laptop & TV, Powered everything off and then started installing again. However My Cloud could not be found. However the Plex App on my Laptop created another folder under the Laptop Name and could pull the programs and movies into a Plex view and when I opened an Plex app on my Smart DVD Player it could read the files from my laptop and therefore I can view again on the LG TV.
The Plex App on the DVD player has limited functionality but its better than nothing.
I opened your attachment, Logged into MyCloud home online, Went to the Plex App and tried to configure and I get the following
The Plex App has recognised my Laptop as a seperate Plex Server as it would appear it can pick up the files from My Cloud via Windows File Explorerer on the Laptop.
Please should creater WD Mc Cloud as a seperate server but now this name still appears but it tells me every day that it cannot locate.
Im baffled really
I am having the same problem. It just disappeared from all platforms of Plex that I can view. It still shows up in the list as a “Authorized Device” listed as a Plex server. Yet, that is the only place I can see it and no way to add it. I tried disabling and re-enabling through the mycloud website. Please do some testing with a my cloud home on your end and see if you can connect to one at all. Something has changed. Only reason I bought the full membership to Plex and the My Cloud in the first place was just to access my own music library everywhere that I want to. Pretty nice…when it works. Please escalate.
My View is that there has been a software update either at Western Digital or Plex that created this issue as If others are experiencing it it cannot be our local network setups.
Its only a Hunch
I’m having different issues for the same product - if anyone can help would be most grateful please?
In short, I bought a WD My Cloud 6TB Drive (specifically to run Plex actually), and I’ve transferred all my media, set up the app and run through the Plex Wizard. However I constantly get a message saying my changes (when I add media) can’t be saved. I can’t add any media catagories beyond films. Plus I can’t access the system remotely either
Really frustrating - I’ve read all the posts on setting up, plus watched a ton of YouTube vids, nothing seems to work. Any thoughts of wisdom welcome please…
This is unbelievable! I switched to using a hard drive on my local windows 10 machine since Plex doesn’t seem to want to help with the My Cloud issue. Well, now running the app on the local machine and clearly being able to see the folders for it, the Plex app cannot connect. Please help!!! Would prefer to use my WD for what it is for. Now, nothing is really working.
I have seen updates to the Plex software and installed them. The same with WD. I guess I just needed to post some more frustration. The local install still can’t see my very visible hard drive (ridiculous) but from the My Cloud website, I performed a reboot to the device and it is suddenly visible. I would recommend doing the reboot from WD to possibly fix the issue since Plex isn’t interested in helping us out. The connection is still really shaky I am noticing as typing this.
My Plex also stopped working on MycloudHomeDuo2x6tb. Fire tv app can see my duo but can’t connect. Tried all sorts of things, even flattening and starting again. Now can’t copy my stuff back to it! Very slow and errors all the time. Just about ready to give up! Does anyone know if you can’t use the drives in another NAS enclosure. Thinking DS220j ??
That sounds like a different scenario where the My Cloud is actually broken (if you can no longer properly work with the NAS itself, even after a re-install).
As for re-using the drives in another enclosure/NAS: that could work… However I’d rather be on the safe side and give those drives a hard look to ensure it’s not the drives that went bad.
hi tom, the drives are always usable on from my iMac ill try a test copy of a large file and see.
is there an app that can check the heath of my drives? a utility
