Really sorry, I’m very new and a bit technologically dumb at times. I purchased the WD My Cloud home purely to use for plex. I have transfered everything in to the correct folders and loaded it all on to plex. This is great but after 24 hours Plex cannot connect to the server. It just says it is unavailable. The only way that I can get it to find it is by logging on through a computer, removing and then refinding the server. It’s really annoying and if there is no fix this is going back.
Any help would be appreciated.
WD makes great drives. IMHO, they don’t make the best Plex servers. WD My Cloud home is entry level and you pretty much get what you pay for. If you’re serious about having a Plex server, I suggest looking at the more prevalent units Synology (pricey but great interface) or QNAP (better processors but a little more techy-oriented / windows-like GUI )
I absolutely see what you’re saying, but this doesn’t really help me. I had to buy what I could for my budget and this offered a plex server. It’s really frustrating that it doesn’t work!
Thanks. that helps me a great deal. I’m sorry for my earlier statement. I’ve never been impressed with WD’s server solution.
Regarding your problem:
We are getting reports of the Android app (which Samsung uses).
If you can enable DEBUG logging (VERBOSE remains OFF) in Server- Settings - General - Show Advanced,
Then recreate the problem with the TV connecting, including telling the TV to reset and reselect the server (the ellipsis in the Home – left panel), we can see more of what it’s trying to do and if that’s the problem the devs are working on now.
I just went to do this, but it appears the issue is to do with being on my home network. I couldn’t access the server until I went on to my mobile data on the plex web app.
I will still run what you have said though.
I probably won’t be able to run the test until early Saturday. Would there be any other reason that it won’t work on my home network, but remote access has no issue at all?
I have actually fixed the issue. It turns out on the plex server I can’t have remote access turned on if I want to use the server on my local network. Seems like there is probably a way to do this but I don’t mind.
