Web app cant find new server

recently upgraded to a new (to me) computer and cannot for the life of me get a new plex server going. it is NOT showing up in my devices list in my plex account. I’ve signed in/out and reinstalled the server after every attempt ive made to change something. ive gone through the troubleshooting guides and scoured the forums to no avail. this is everything ive done

verified im running the current version
disabled VPN (then just deleted it altogether)
disabled windows firewall
no proxies running
reset all internet settings to default

this link seems to explain my problem but im not quite computer savvy enough to figure out how he solved this problem:

  • possible issue: the computer previously had plex installed on another account but was deleted prior to me taking ownership. not sure if that could affect anything but it proves it was working at some point*

If it is windows look at the registry settings for Plex and there will be some PlexOnline values if someone is signed in. more info here https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

You can also restart the server and look at its logs of it starting up and see what account it signs itself into

Problem solved!!

So i ended up contacting the former owner and it turned out the server on my computer was still claimed by his plex account. i had him remove the server from his devices list and was then able to claim it on my account.
