Web playback error s3017 (Media)

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368
Player Version#: (chrome web player version 4.20.2)

While playing a video on Plex Web player in Google Chrome, I get the following error:

“Playback Error
An error occurred trying to play “[video title here]”.
Error code: s3017 (Media)”

The original video format is 4k AVC (h264), and the playback is ‘original’ not transcoding.
Original audio format is EAC3 5.1, and automatically transcodes to AAC.

I’ll get about 20 minutes of playback, and then it will buffer once, then another 5 minutes of playback and it will error out with the above error code. If I exit the video and resume then it works fine for another 20 minutes.

No errors in the console that I can tell.

Google search results has next to nothing for s3017, and only 1 single topic for xbox on plex from 2018.

Any suggestions?

It’s a miracle it played at all in Plexweb.

Use a suitable Player app and these issues will likely vanish:

Plex Media Player - The Original (enhanced settings/TV View Mode):

Or New Plex Player for 'Whatever (under development - PMP ‘Lite’):

^^ It’s misleading - you’ll actually go to the Player App.

Thanks for the quick reply - I had hoped to avoid installing more software but hey if it fixes the issue I’ll certainly give it a try! I’ll post a reply once I confirm this fixes it.

Yea, for 4K you really want to go with a Player App.

Plexweb runs in your Browser, of course, and Browsers are very limited in what they can pull off successfully.

Plex Media Player has a suite of juicer settings - accessible in TV Mode - once set they’ll work in either view mode.

You can install both of them - weapon of choice when it’s called for kinda thing.
Either of them (Plexweb View in PMP) have the same server interface. Think of them as Supercharged Plexwebs.

Sure enough, the issue did not happen using the same media source while playing back with the Plex app. Just a web browser playback issue.

Cheers!
