WebOS 6.0 - Video buffering when DTS audio transcoding with subtitles

hi

I think i saw this problem somewhere described, but was hoping that fix will arrive to also LG app. Seems it’s only available on Android, as works properly on my Shield app after setting up properly ( do not transmit DTS sound).

issue is the following:

as LG devices (not sure about the others) starting roughly from 2020 does not support DTS, Plex needs to transcode audio. It can do it on the fly without subtitles ( Video is direct then, audio is transcoded), but when I enable subtitles, then Video is transcoded as well.

is there any plan to enable audio transcode with subtitles on WebOS same way as it is on Android? I do not want to have separate Android box just for this purpose, but seems the only option for now.

I’m running LG G1 model with WebOS 6.0

There must be more than a hundred topics where people complain about this issue

I’ve a LG B7 OLED and the issues with subtitles have existed at least that long. Plex uses the native LG video player which apparently has limited capabilities.

If you’re using TV speakers or a 5.1 or less audio system then snag a Amazon FireTV Stick 4K. TrueHD will be transcoded by the Plex Media Server to a supported format. dts audio will direct play, but be converted by the FireTV to AC3, EAC3, or PCM depending on the capabilities of your sound equipment. In either case, video will direct play when PGS, VOBSUB, or SRT subtitles are enabled.

If you’ve a home theater system and want TrueHD, TrueHD + Atmos, dts-HD, & dts:X passthrough, then buy a 2019 Shield Pro.

thanks, this is what I hoped to avoid. If DTS audio transcode can be done on Android boxes, I do not really understand why Plex can’t do this on other platforms. Maybe there is some new version coming?

As mentioned, Plex uses the LG video player, which has limited capabilities.

Plex on Android uses ExoPlayer, which is part of Android. It has less limitations than the LG video player.

Plex just rolled out a new version of the LG app. What was the “preview release” in earlier versions is now the shipping version.

Unless Plex has plans to move away from the LG video player or LG upgrades its capabilities, nothing will change. BTW, Plex never discloses product plans or timelines, so no use asking.
