LG C8 > LG C1 - Plex and DTS Question

I’ve been enjoying my 65" C8 since I purchased from new several years ago and frankly am still happy with it. However now I’m back in to console gaming the itch has started to explore 120hz/VRR and all the other good stuff HDMI2.1 would add. I was going to be quite happy to pull the trigger on either a 77" LG C1 or 65" G1.

Problem:
One of my main uses on the C8 is using the built in Plex app to stream my movies from my Synology218+ NAS Plex server. Whilst I’ve owned an Nvidia Shield/RaspPI in the past I now prefer to keep a wife friendly, simple setup and use built in WebOs apps - as it simply just works for me currently.

I understand LG no longer support DTS natively or even pass through.

What options do I have? I hoped Plex may have transcoded DTS but if I understand correctly this may have a knock on effect for subtitles/HDR/video transcoding?

Do I need to explore other TV options such as the Sony?

I used Tdarr to batch convert all DTS+ tracks to AC3. It took a while and surely I converted to a worse quality sound but I gained a LOT of compatibility.

Thank you, may I ask how long it typically takes per file? (appreciate it will depend on CPU specs).

Its crazy to me that LG dropped support despite DTS soundtracks still being present on newly released content.

On my 7700k it takes 2-5 min per movie

A lot of people are only using streaming services that dosen’t include DTS so…

With the Plex webOS app, enabling PGS/VOBSUB subtitles results in a video transcode. If the audio is transcoding, enabling any type of subtitle results in a video transcode.

In addition to dts audio, TrueHD audio will be transcoded. Fortunately, movies released with TrueHD also include a Dolby Digital (AC3) audio track, so choose the AC3 audio track if possible.

If it eases your mind at all I can tell you that I bought a high end Sony and absolutely love it. Prior to the Sony we had a 4K LG and it was never as smooth or responsive as the Sony. We loved the picture on the LG but its app ecosystem was always kind of wonky and slow. The Sony is very snappy and Android TV is great imo. Also the picture is one of the best I have ever seen. I definitely understand now why Sony has such a rabid fanbase. I’m not sure about compatibility as I run everything through eARC to an AVR, but I have yet to run into any issues with it in the few months we’ve had it.
