Western Digital PR4100 and DL4100, Lost contact with one NAS

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6359
Player Version#: N/A

Today I got some strange behavior from Plex server on WD PR/DL 4100
2 servers, both connected to same switch, same network etc etc…
all has worked as it should. Until I today added a second LAN connection for the NAS - connected to a different router and subnet.

I thought I had stopped the servers, but - I had not.

After checking Plex, I found that iI no longer could access one of the Plex servers.

I disconnected the new cables from both NAS servers and rebooted them.

When starting back - Plex still showed only 1 server.

the NAS units are connected to a switch, which is connected to the router.
No change in this. No Vlan - nothing…
I can connect to both NAS as usual from any of my computers and they are visible in the network.

All other things in the house works as it should… I never actually changed anything except from enabling a second LAN on the NAS units.

What I have done to try solve is:

  • From Each NAS, Press Configure to open the web UI - and Logged out

  • Stopped both Plex server apps

  • From browser logged in to Plex.tv account, and removed authorization for both NAS

  • On NAS1, I started Plex server again, opened the web UI config
** It showed a list of some of the previous libraries on the other NAS server and suggested to Pin them. The only option I had was to accept to continue.

  • from the same web UI I logged in to my Plex account

  • went to +More, clicked on the Server name - and got the Claim server message

  • I clicked on claim - and after a short while, I get screen saying “Not Authorized”.

  • Logged Out from my Plex account, and logged back in. Server was claimed.
However - it does NOT show any of the libraries on that server.

Stopping server, and doing the same process with the other NAS and Plex server, will populate with all libraries from the other server.

It seems impossible to get back into the config panel for NAS1

Note: I did not have remote access enabled for any of the servers.

First of all, I have NO idea why the NAS1 would show suggested Libraries from NAS2
(Yes - I did check the URL and it correctly show the IP for the NAS1 server)

I also double checked the NAS1 itself to verify that folders and filer are actually there.

I have now rebooted all equipment, but after power-up I am still unable to get correct access from NAS1.

I have been on the early release of Plex server. Perhaps there are something there?

Are there any config files I can manually edit on the NAS to deal with this?

I have many libraries and would hate having to rebuild everything.

After using the web GUI (when already authenticated and logged in), I no longer see the list with Pinned items from the other server, however - the only server name showing - is the other Plex servers name. In the URL, it show the address for NAS1, but Plex show NAS2 name…

Something very strange is happening. Almost as if some of the configs has been mixed and saved to Plex cloud.

Are there things in the back-end that needs to be manually cleaned up?

I’m open for any suggestions that can help solve this - any at all…

A little update:

After I claimed server… just accepted the list of suggested pinned libraries from the wrong server (which is OFF by the way) - I log out - and back in. In any browser, on my Mac, Windows, Chrome - safari - I get the same trouble.

When accessing via AppleTV Plex client - it works as it should …

Thought it could be cache in browser - cleared it - same result.
Downloaded Firefox - never used with Plex before… same result.
Seems as if these wrong things are somehow cached on the server.

Plex Mac app also show libraries only from 1 server, so I have now no option to edit library or config …

Regardless - I am still unable to access Server settings to configure the server.

After some digging around, I found a solution, but not the cause.

Solution was to delete the Preferences.xml file from the Plex server on the NAS.
When starting again - things got back into shape.

I did check the file, and I saw NO mention of the other NAS IP or anything. To my eyes, the Preferences file looked ok.

For some reason, it looks as if “something” went wrong when another IP on the WD NAS got into the mix. Did not expect that to mess up Plex server.

In case You have similiar issue, here is the folder to find the Preferences file on WD NAS:

/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/plex_conf/Plex Media Server/
