I have an app on my Iphone that I can use to access my desktop server. But it is not efficient or always available. What do I do to get our (wife and my) Ipad to have this app and use it? Ipad address is in her email ID. I do not see which app in the Apple store is appropiate. Tried to “invite” her onto the account, but that has been very confusing and so far not worked.
I’m not exactly sure what trouble you’re experiencing.
There’s the native Plex for iOS app you can download from the app store. It should be able to connect to your server, assuming she’s signed in with her account and you’ve shared your libraries with her – I suppose the server itself is up and running when she tries to stream from it?
General approach for sharing within your family:
Invite your wife’s account into your Plex Home.
If you cannot find the app in the Apple App Store, try plex.tv.
Thank you. Does the invite allow the iPad to pick up the music libraries on my server, as does my iPhone. I don’t want the whole Plex software package or the whole libraries on the iPad., but to duplicate what is now the access to the server as in my iPhone. I don’t remember exactly what I downloaded on my phone. But not sure what the "native Plex for iOS is on Apple. Don’t see it there when I get the store on the iPad. There is now an app called Plexamp. Is this the amp to use to get access to my server to hear music, etc? When I open the Plex management program, I can see the download for Apps for IOs. But, I think that would download to my desktop/server where I have the PlexTv loaded. How do I get it on the IPad or from the Apple store?
You will have access to all your Plex server Libraries, they will not reside on the iPad. You will be linked via Wifi or Mobile 4G or 5G if your iPad is a Cellular and Wifi model.
As for downloads, you add those via Sync with your Server.
If you have a iPad Air, iPad pro you can if the correct model use a USB C Flash Drive to access it contents via folders, or use your Mac desktop (Preferred in most cases). There are limitations with using external drives on some models. I also believe iPad 10th Generation allows some limited access also.
