What are the goals for Plex Live TV?

Hello,

I just had a general question or 2 about the new Plex Live TV service.

  1. So what is the long-term goal for Plex TV, will there be more channels added?

  2. The wording of “Live TV” implied as first that the content is streamed live, but as I read that’s not totally correct. It seems that’s only if you have an antenna picking up local channels. Is Plex thinking of creating an actual streaming service at some point?

  3. I also noticed that the channels I have added to Plex already have some “on-demand” content from let’s say Fox and ABC. Is this content for those channels and others going to be updated on a regular basis?

  4. Is there any plans to maybe include ESPN at a later time, maybe for live streaming?

Thanks in advance if someone can answer my questions.

This is not a streaming service and Plex doesn’t provide content (and isn’t likely to).

Plex Live TV is about getting your OTA channels (via antenna) through Plex.

  1. This is a DVR/Live TV service utilizing your ATSC/DVB OTA/Cable/etc signal you already receive. We do not control the channels you can receive.
  2. Content over an antenna is live, so this is correct. We have no current plans, but we’re not against it, but it would not be under this same umbrella, which is focused on existing content you already have access too (via an antenna/cable/etc)
  3. I have no idea what you’re talking about. This has nothing to do with our ‘Channels’ support, which may give you access to on-demand content, but unrelated to DVR/Live TV.
  4. We don’t own or control the content, so this is outside of our hands.
