What do I lose when I reset Plex?

Server Version#:1.32.7.7621
Player Version#:1.82.2.4024-64f483f6

I am experiencing a lot of problems with Plex.
a) Scroll doesn’t work
b) Sound goes out intermittently
c: Black screen when trying to start movie

I have had Plex for many years and never had any of these problems.

I’m thinking about resetting Plex. Deleting the preference file and see if that works.

So what will I lose if I do this?

I’m really don’t want to lose my collections… And I would prefer not to lose my metadata on my media.

Any thoughts or ideas or recommendatons?

Thanks in advance.

This reads more like Plex client, not server, problems.

You can delete/re-install clients without affecting any collections, metadata, etc.

For Plex Desktop (the player version in your post), you must also remove the directory holding the preferences and other information. See the Uninstall section of the Plex Desktop installation documentation: https://support.plex.tv/articles/windows-and-macos-intro-installation/#toc-2

Thanks for the reply. One other question. I thought I would back up my local data for both plex and plex server just in case.

My local data for Plex Server seems quite large.

Dos this seem right?

Thanks again.

I just completely installed plex for windows based on the link you gave me.

It is exhibiting the same behavior.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

They would definitely be welcome.

The more media you have on your server, the larger the Plex Data Folder (mine is 110 GB).

You can move it to another local drive if desired: [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

You can also reduce the size by disabling some features such as thumbnail generation: Why is my Plex Media Server directory so large?

For the audio, in the Player section of the settings, enable Exclusive Audio. Be aware you won’t hear audio from other sources while using Plex Desktop.

You can also try changing the Audio Device from Auto, to the specific device for your system. You can then pick the device kind and what audio codecs are passed to it.

Example, I use a small TV as a computer monitor. Audio Device = VL260M, Device Kind = HDMI, Audio Channels = Auto, and Passthrough Dolby Digital is enabled.

Not sure about the black screen problems. I have not experience such on my PC. I’ve Video Playback Quality = Normal and hardware decoding also enabled.

For scrolling, do you mean scrolling through a library or forward and backward while watching a movie/show? I’ve not had issues with either.
