What do people think of the official response to the terrible New Plex Experience rollout?

Plexamp Is awsome, Not perfect, as we all have specific requirements, but still one of the best audio players period. I’m using it 8 hours daily.

plexamp :heart_with_arrow: music

A lot of weird hate here for people who create an exceptional piece of software that most of you use without paying a cent. WTF?

I’m not a fan of the the all new plex UI Either especially as I only watch local media. I think there has been a direction change slowly moving through the plex eco system and it just feels like that has never been communicated at least in a way that got to me.

Plex has a very strong community, with as we see here, strong opinions.
As a past digital product creative myself, I do understand some of the disconnect, but I feel users of software are often not considered as full stakeholders, yet they absolutely are!!!. Without users software is impotent.

It would be nice to understand the plex ecosystem direction. I think the users should be bought in in an open and honest way

I think most of it stems back to the dark times, just after the 2025.XX New Experience releases, the app was actually broken and unable to perform basic functions, without considering design choice or intentional / un-intentional feature removal. Many users felt this was certainly not acceptable, especially where folks are paying users or free users who were forced to consider paying for remote streaming that was previously free.

With some fixes and some of the heat dissipating, things are on the whole improving. I also consider just like many things in life, when something is working you don’t think about it (so don’t come here and praise good outcomes), sadly the opposite is true when things aren’t working.

For me personally, 2025.22 is getting close to offering a mobile app that does the basics of what I want, so much so that I might consider moving back to using it full time again (moved to Infuse a while back, because of the download issues in the old client). Major thing for me is resolving the blocking Live TV / DVR issues.

Recognition needs to be given for what the small iOS dev team have been able to do to get things heading in the right direction, and for glimpses of better customer engagement. I hope this continues, however also understand that 30 minutes wading through some of these posts wouldn’t leave you with a positive view of making the app better for the remaining 10+ hours of your workday.

Maybe I’m just lucky on the way I use Plex? But I’m not hamstrung in any way with the new UI even if I don’t particularly like it.

I run Plex server on an unpaid server. I Watch local content most every day via the app on android tv and the only annoying glitch I encounter is the “continue watching” seems unreliable to show up. Seems it needs to be woken…sometimes going to (the near pointless for me) activity tab wakes up history?

But that’s it. My biggest gripe…big deal. .

Plexamp. Used all day every day. Rpi headless +dac.. but with a head. (Touchscreen).
My only gripe is in landscape it now seems to have some space above the main UI that pushes it down???
Oh and on tablets if your using plexamp as a living room streamer the font is small it’s not as responsive a UI in this situation. If CSS was accessible I would have overwritten it. . If you’re close like on a computer or phone then it’s fine.

So am I just lucky that I strike no real debilitating problems.?

This is what I think too. For the original mission seemingly being to play local content, the new UI makes absolutely no sense…in fact it impedes that.

There must be a reason that the new direction has been brewing since the huge amount of crappy online Plex content. My guess is someone said they have to start making more money and are working towards that. If that is the case though, i’d rather they just came out and said it.

it reminds me of Facebook before ads…and now the cesspool it’s become because of ads and everything that goes with that. Please don’t let this happen to Plex. Once you NEED to encourage engagement within any app…it’s no longer useful.

That is awesome and I’m happy that was your experience. Can’t wait to feel the same

I’d prefer if they offered two different UIs/apps or a more configurable UI to address this.

You want a source of revenue? Great, I’d like you to stay around longer. Do what you need to do, but let me shut it off for me and my users. You could argue they kind of did that with the online options, but it doesn’t come close to returning the original UI with the navigation drawer or getting Plex’s content out of the way.

I can’t find my own stuff because Plex’s keeps popping up! Users are asking me why I have ads. This is terrible.

The new iPad app is total and utter garbage. Is this done on purpose to break Plex? THe previous app worked perfectly. You broke the app on purpose and now nobody can use the service anymore. I can’t imagine this wasn’t done on purpose you can’t be that incompetent. The app simply doesn’t play. Displays an error message “cannot find server”, it crashes every 10 minutes, it resets to previous episodes even though I have watched 5 episodes in between crashes. It resets the play back to the beginning of an episode when i switch sound output from wifi to bluetooth. You can’t make that stuff up. Plex is now utter garbage. And I can’t use the browser on the iPad because Apple decided it would be great to add two big white bars on the top and bottom of safari when expanding the screen. Apple and Plex make a great pair. How to sink two ships. Just bring back the old app and stop the mess you’ve created.

This is the very WORST thing you have ever done!
I use Roku Ultra and it’s horrible. All side menus GONE.
Top menus SUCK.
Where is the LIST option for movies???
The movie icon, with no description, is beyond horrible as the only option.

If the Plex interface looked like this when I started, then I would NEVER have selected Plex.

I might have stayed with KODI.

Can I tell you how much I HATE these ugly changes?? Hate… Hate…. HATE!!

It’s below base minimum. When they say they got feedback from people, who and what? I have a really hard time believing that there was such fanfare and positivity about such a massive change

I don’t like this new UI at all. It’s forced On Demand and Discover to be there, both of which I had hidden. My Home screen no longer shows content even though I can see content in my Libraries section. I have to reorder all my Libraries even though I already did that. I can only see a few Libraries listed in the nav bar. I don’t like that it automatically switches when you navigate, it’s very distracting. Favoriting sucks with how you have to scroll down and then right, very hard to quickly favorite or unfavorite everything

Give us more UI options so those of us who liked the old way can still have it.

The new interface hit my Roku overnight and within minutes of seeing it I am considering moving to jellyfin or other platform. It’s laggy on a Roku Ultra. You dropped menu customization for what? It’s not pretty, it’s not fast, it has a menu (On Demand) that I will never use. You blew it.

More bugs: you pause the app, it crashes. Then reverts to two episodes back. You select a streamer like a Wiim, you get an error messsage “can”t find a server with that name”. You fast forward to recover the episode where you were: it restarts at the beginning and forgets where you were. And another bug: the output level is low, very low, compared to other apps. Would it be so hard to offer a level inside the app like there is in the browser app? Just make the browser interface into an app and that’s all. It’s freaking perfect. Perfect is better than this garbage i’ve never ever had in all the history of iphones and ipads an app that was so deeply buggy and flawed and deficient technically.

First Plex is hacked, now Plex hacked my experience.

Discarding all Plex my preferences for your own is not acceptable. Having to search for the secret option to get some of them back is upsetting. I removed access to online streaming options when I was repeatedly forced into their steaming services rather than watching it on local content. Now it’s all back and not removable.

The best is that on Roku we have no access to the top menu bar. We’ve lost all access to our libraries. Plex is nearly useless now.

Seriously, make it usable. I’m feeling like I need Jellyfin just to watch my own local content now.

I for one am not a fan of their complete non-response to their latest UI and functionality abortion

Please release Plex Classic for all OS’s!
The new format is worse than awful I don’t want “Live TV”, I don’t want to couple other Streaming Services into it and I don’t want Recommendations of Dicovering…..I just want to watch what’s in my Library in my Server and I shouldn’t have to pay to do that.
Please, Please let users add or delete Opt In or Opt Out of all this craptastic addons.
Otherwise, I’ll need to find an alternative to Plex for streaming from my home server.
Once again, the Developers are clueless as to what the Users want.

Their answer for Roku (and thus regarding the whole new experience) in principle was “We won’t change it back, get over it.”

And that is not an acceptable answer at all (which I’m sure you know).

We need answers.

Worse - they know what we want and are just simply refusing to implement it. I’m sure it’s not the developers at the wheel, but this is incredibly frustrating.

If I knew this was where Plex was heading, I would have never invested in the service.
