What do you do with 2 servers?

I have Plex Media Server on my window 7 computer and I have used it to watch movies and personal videos that are stored on my external hard drive through out the house on various devices. Before that I was using a jump drive to physically take media to other screens. I have a Nvidia Shield TV. When I added the app to the device, it set up a server, Do I need a 2nd server? I am about to drop DirecTV. Should I keep the second server for OTA DVR recording. I have the Plex Pass but have not put the energy to get all I can from it. I will now. That is why I am researching.

If you want to do DVR OTA I’d suggest you keep the windows 7 machine so it can be on 24/7 and record.

Get all your media connected to that guy and use the shield as a client player.

Just my 10 cents, cause you know inflation it can’t be 2 cents forever.

There really isn’t any reason to have multiple servers, unless you have various content you do not want combined into the same server (under different libraries).

You can remove the shield server (to prevent it from showing up in your clients) by going to @ Plex Web > settings > authorized devices > servers

removing a server will sign it out from your account and remove it from any clients.

If you don’t know what you would do with it, you probably don’t need it

I would say for what you are doing 2 servers isnt needed. I would record OTA on the win 7 box and use the shield as a playback device. Just as NokDim says

Two servers is really only needed if you want to cleanly record OTA and Cable with two seperate guides with minimal hassle.

Just my two cents on the matter
