Most of them are not Jellyfin’s fault. A lot of it has to do with media matching and my laziness.
One of the main big ones was that it can’t do mixed folders which Plex was good at. I could have a folder that had both TV shows and movies and mostly it would put each in the correct section. Jellyfin just adds the media to both TV and movies. If it’s a TV show it just shows up as an unmatched movie and if it’s a movie as an unmatched show episode. It seems like it should be a fairly simple thing that if the file is matched in the TV library to not also add it to the movies library and vice versa.
Ultimately I could work around this and stop being lazy but I don’t want to. If I wanted to use something I don’t like I’d just have stuck with Plex’s new UI.
I hate the “New Experience”. Plex should have at least give us the choice and not shove it down our throats. Note to whoever makes these decisions: I don’t want streaming services or addons or anything other than my local content. I don’t want you making decisions on my behalf. Give us the option to revert to the old style experience.
This UI is so awful, my family couldnt find where anything was, and even I was frustrated with trying to navigate anything. And the main screen, why is it “continue watching”? thats the most useless screen EVER! give me my library.
Anyways, this was last straw, spent last few hours installing Jellyfin. Transition is simple, and everything is so clean and good looking, the way plex used to be before they started selling out.
Goodbye Plex. You were good, but then for some reason decided to destroy yourself.
You are not wrong… I have a post that lists the following issues I have with Plex addressing the developers…
1- I do not want Forced Graphic Titles!! I want my movies or shows to display the titles I have in my server, showing that they are extended or director’s cuts! I want the titles to display the original title of the movie I have in my server and not a forced translation! I want the movie to display what i have in my server and not unreadable calligraphy!! Make this an option for people to turn OFF!!
2- Finding shows, movies or collections is a mess! So many nested options and odd locations!. This goes for ROKU, Android, PlexAmp, and others I have seen. Get rid of this mess and return to the intuitive menu of the previous UI, Please!
3- Lifetime members wanted Plex for the sake of an easy way to watch their movies and shows as well as a way to listen to their music. Go back to that! Focus on that purpose, please! You guys are turning Plex into a fragmented hot Mess!!
4-If unwilling to role UI back. Lifetime members should receive refunds. This is NOT what we paid for!
Agree 100%, new design is horrible. I’m an IT guy and a graphic designer, took me forever to figure out where the hell all my personal media went. I have an Apple TV which hasn’t changed yet, thank God. Only reason I knew the Roku changed is because my parents use a Roku because it’s “simple” to use and navigate, my parents are in there 80’s and were complaining that all their old show had disappeared that I had put together for them, try explaining the new UI to old people… yikes!
Of course Plex didn’t ask us in a survey if we wanted any of these changes to the app. They don’t give a damn what we want or what we think. They care nothing about customer satisfaction, only about pushing their own agenda.
Which now seems to be bad updates that make the app less functional while constantly trying to push their ad based free streaming channels on us. Most of us have no interest in that and Plex doesn’t want to listen to our complaints.
The guys in charge are huge egomaniacs and won’t roll it back no matter how many people complain. That tells you all you need to know about the direction the company is headed in.
They are not “customer focused”. They are profit-driven, just like any other company out there.
The trouble is, they somehow believe this pivot to being a purveyor of second-rate streaming services is going to turn into a significant revenue stream, as opposed to it leading to a mass migration to one of the MANY alternatives available of their core self-hosting customer base.
I started this topic and I wanted to come back and say thank you to the Plex team for fixing the Roku interface. In fact I think it’s now better than it was originally.
