I have been a Plex Pass member for year or so now. When I first signed up and setup my server all worked ok, I had a few glitches here and there but Live OTA streaming on my home network worked good and recording was fine. I believe OTA live tv streaming and recording have been their mainstay or focus of the software for many years so they should know something about this. Now within the past couple of months all the sudden nothing works or is shutting off with errors. I have changed nothing on my home network settings. My live OTA streaming to my TV’s and Fire TV devices will not work for more 3 minutes then shuts down with an error. What is going on. I have recently tried the Emby server and it is working fine with no issues so that leads me to believe they have as issue with server or the apps. I would prefer to stay with Plex because I have enjoyed the way it works and the features it offers but not going to stay with something that is constantly not working. Any Plex employees out there with any thoughts or recommendations on what to do here.
Please note that this is a beta version. We have picked up a issue that is likely related to your problem on this version and should have a patch out on Monday. This currently only seems to affect OTA streams on Android devices.
Issues will crop up more frequently in beta versions than in the public release, if you want to help test out the latest changes then you can stay on the beta and help us by providing steps on how to reproduce the issue along with logs when you pick up problems.
If you want a more stable experience I suggest you stick to the public release branch.
I switched my Plex server settings to the stable branch, then I downloaded the latest (stable?) release (for Synology DSM 7). Installed the package OK, but now I’m still not seeing rewind/fast forward options when paused during live TV. At least now this might fix the issue where live OTA would crash every 4 minutes. Hopefully this new release that’s coming this Monday (?) will fix all these DVR live OTA issues!
Thank You for your reply. drzoidberg33 I appreciate your help. Ok so I changed my beta server version update option as you suggested to public and then deleted my server software and downloaded the public version 1.24.4.5081. It is playing through the scheduled program now. That is good.
Now I am back to the same reason why I tried the beta version to start with. I am still seeing the Live OTA streaming to my fire tv device version running 8.23.2.28087 shutting down 3 minutes after every guide program change. It says in a black box (Error. An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection). When I hit ok and go back to the guide to reset this it is still showing the guide hour info for the hour in which I chose the program. I have to reset the guide data and then choose the current live program to go back to live tv. Then it repeats the problem at the next program guide change. How do I stop this from happening? Thank you for your help. Here are my logs from when this started and a video of this happening on my device.
I have been experiencing the same issues listed in this thread since the last update I did on my QNAP NAS. It is pretty old and today I found something I am not sure of. I noticed on my apple devices that the live TV streaming is direct stream from the TV tuner (I have an HDHomeRun Quattro). I noticed that the streaming to the Fire stick was using transcoding to H.254. The CPU on my NAS was maxing out so I turned on my old Plex server on my desktop and streamed live TV from it. It is working fine. It shows that it is transcoding from the Windows desktop as well. Prior to doing recent updates, I do not recall having any CPU issues on the NAS. I wonder if it was doing a direct stream before and that there may have been an update to the Fire stick plex app that started these issues?
Also, in regards to the app shutting down 3 minutes after the program changes was happening too. That was the problem which prompted me to run updates in the first place. When I switched back to my Windows Plex server, it crashed 3 minutes after the program change, so I did an update on it to the latest version. The issue persists, but does not completely close out of the app anymore. It just says an error occurred while attempting to play this video.
Don’t know if any of that is helpful enough for the people working on the bug fixes, but those are my observations.
