I’ve been trying to get an answer (not even a solution, just an answer) to an issue for more than 2 weeks now:
After waiting months for the 4.0 version, and after that weeks for it work (music playback would stop after a minute, making the app unusable). And after all that the app is still buggy, basic features like gapless playback or support for the composer tag to be able to listen to classical music are still lacking.
I’m a plex pass member, and plex for iOS was not free.
Do I have to start insulting the team ? It seems to work for some people…
The current version of the app is 4.4. Have you not been updating your device or are you using a device which can’t upgrade to it? The older devices which Apple has locked at iOS 6 fall into that category. Those devices are frozen at 3.5.1 because of Apple, not Plex.
Yes, gapless playback is still missing but it’s missing in the server. That’s where they have to add it first.
The app is VERY stable imho. I drove from Pennsylvania to Kansas (and back) with the phone mounted in dash holder. It linked bluetooth into the car’s audio and played flawlessly the entire time. I had synced to the phone but it wasn’t needed even in the sparse coverage areas There was 1 area in Indiana where coverage was sparse (surrounded by fields as far as the eye could see and very rural) . Even with this 1-bar coverage, there were no issues.

The hardware and software used is included in the thread I’m mentioning:
PMS is running on windows 10, accessing files from a NAS. iOS 9 and iOS 10 show the same behavior with an iPad Air 2 and an iPhone 6. Also this happens on version 4.2.x and latest 4.3.

I’m happy to know you’re happy with the app.
The app is VERY unstable imho.
The app constantly crashes when using it to cast to a Chromecast audio for example. But again, I’m just trying to get some support, not enumerating bugs.
Ok, thank you for your help, sorry for the harsh tone in my previous answer, it just gets frustrating when the team seem selective in which thread they are answering in the iOS section and when my issues never seem to get resolved with new versions.
I’ve included a log after getting the “something went wrong playing your media…” pop-up.
It seem to happen randomly: sometimes when sending playback to a Chromecast or switching between Chromecasts or trying to continue playback on the iOS device.
iOS version is 10.0.2
Plex for iOS version is 4.4
PMS version is 1.1.4.2757
I don’t see how that’s possible, I’m always running the latest stable (not Plex pass) PMS on a Windows 10 machine.
Is it possible to get support from Plex or at least an answer saying they will not look into it ?
I understand you’re trying to help but this is going nowhere.
It’s been more than a week…
I’ve been reporting that issue since November 2015.
What the ■■■■.
Just state on your website that no support will be provided it would be fine with me. But also state on your website that chromecast support is in beta or wathever you want to call it so that I don’t buy equipment that’s not working half the time.
The worst thing is that half support I’ve been getting for more than a year, it looks like you’re trying to bury any issues your customers might have with your software by hoping people will forget.

I was able to recreate your inability to cast to the chromecast (either through the phone or as the local server).
The issue was the ChromeCast. Using the updated “Google Home” app (no longer “Google Cast”), I put it back in the local lan after doing the full factory-reset.
In both cases, using Plex app 4.4.1 (current), I sync’d content to the phone. Before resetting the ChromeCast, it would not play.
Resetting the ChromeCast and pairing it back, while forcing download of the current Chrome OS, did what was needed.
Once reset and put back into my wireless LAN, it will play the local sync’d content or I can ‘fling’ it through the phone to the ChromeCast.
