What is the actual Plex Server Name in a Router

How can I tell what my Plex Server name is on my router. I am having trouble getting remote access working. I have a Netgear Nighthawk 1750. Thank you all for the help.

Do you mean the R6700? If so, you cannot run Plex Media Server on that. PMS is only available on the X10 (R9000).

Server Version#: 1.13.0.1275-bbd8d37b
Player Version#: 1.19.4.2935
I need help in knowing what my router would name the plex server on my Windows Laptop. I see a strange name of CHONGQING FUGUI computer. Would this be my Plex Server Name? Also need help to set up UPNP OR NAS PMP on my router. I have a Netgear Nighthawk 1750.

It is the R6700v3.

There is no PMS for that router.

Forgive my stupidity what is PMS?

I’m confused by your question. Your router doesn’t name PMS. If you are running PMS on your Windows laptop, then the name of the server will default to the name of your computer if you don’t change it during the initial setup. You can always change this later.

Call up the system information for your computer and look at the name.

My router is showing a device that has an IP address that when looked up says that it is a plex device. I am just trying to setup Remote access for my Plex Pass.

Never mine I understand that PMS stand for Plex Media Server.

1 - You don’t need a Plex Pass to setup remote acess.

2 - If your router is showing the device name, it will be the name of the device itself, like the name of the computer. Your router knows nothing about Plex and will not show your Plex server name.

3 - If you are trying to setup a port forward for remote access, you just need to forward to the IP address of your computer running Plex Media Server (PMS). It doesn’t matter what it’s name is.

Thank you very much.

PMS is available on the R6700v3. It does run UPNP and all it takes is turning on the remote access and adding the port number and the ip address for PMS. I am now up and running. Can access my PMS from any location as long as I want to. Thank you, but I went to Netgear who helped me with this one.

I think you are possibly very confused.

Plex goes through your router, it does not run on your router.

What you did, is something called ‘port mapping’ which should happen automatically if UPNP is enabled on the router.

Glad you go it working, though you may want to read through the support articles @ https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288286-what-is-plex/ to get a better understanding of plex, the plex server, and the various plex clients/players.
