What is this Plex sidebar item?

Server Version#: 1.32.4.7195
Player Version#: 1.72.2.3901-b7911c36

I was poking around today, using the Plex app from the Microsoft Store and I noticed this item near the bottom of the “More >” sidebar/menu:

WhatIsThis

I’m curious what the “Plex” item is supposed to do and why it is present.

When I click on it, nothing happens except for the quiet sound of the mouse click itself in a quiet room. Zero. Zilch. Nada. So why is there a totally non-functional item on my sidebar/menu? Is it just there to confuse my 80+ year old parents (and me, apparently)?

Whatever that item would normally do I probably all disabled because I only wanted a personal media server and have no interest in any of the impersonal junk (to me) that the Plex developers have tried to shove down my throat. Sure, back when plug-ins were supported, I loved a couple because they provided commercial free, on-demand access to some of my favorite (and at the time current) TV shows. But once that (one of the two reasons I bought a lifetime Plex Pass, by the way) was taken away, I lost all interest in media sources control by others because they ALWAYS end up going away when I learn to like them, or just remove the shows I’m watching (once while I was watching an episode [on Netflix]).

So, if I disable everything that this Plex item would normally activate, can anyone explain WHY the menu item remains and is completely inert? I’d prefer it to be removed when non-functional, but if that is too difficult, then it should at least show something that indicates all associated features were disabled in the server.

It is a header item. As described when you do a code inspect.

It’s a header pertaining to all services that are offered directly from Plex themselves, separately from any other servers listed. Plex Live TV, Movies, TV Shows, etc.

I’m not sure what “do a code inspect” means in this context, but what is the need for a header to nothing at all?

It seems I have disabled all of the unnecessary/unwanted features that would be found below that header, so I am questioning why it must remain. Or, if it is too difficult for the developers to remove, I’m asking if they could have it display a screen that explains that all the features it would have led to are currently disabled.

Otherwise, for anyone like me, it is a totally useless selection on a menu that does nothing but generate questions from users.

Or you could leave it well enough alone as the software/service and its UI isn’t anything of yours to manipulate as it’s Plex’s, not yours. Everyone’s Plex Pass usage is tied to the ever changing ecosystem. It’s very much akin to any other major streaming service platforms. You’re extremely lucky to be able to disable those unwanted features btw.

In your screenshot, the Watchlist is clearly still active. And that one also lives on plex.tv and not on your server.

Microsoft Edge DevTools (built in to Edge) for example allows you to look at the header in this case.

div class="SourceSidebarServerHeader-title-YAQuKs SourceSidebarLink-title-C2NvGy SidebarLink-title-OWiZjJ">Plex

You can do the same to look at the item below the header shown in your screenshot.

<a title="Watchlist" data-uid="id-480" href="#!/media/tv.plex.provider.discover?source=watchlist" role="link"2

As has been explained, the header is there for a reason in your case. See your screenshot.
