What the heck, Plex ? Thank you for letting us use our libraries as we wish

So now, Plex is blocking alternative agents for matching album art and descriptions.

And if you dare to use yet another alternative agent, you’re rewarded with a superb, permanently anxiety-inducing red exclamation mark on the interface: exactly the kind of thing to force users’ hands.

If the service were flawless like TMDB or others, this might have gone unnoticed, but the number of TV shows and movies that aren’t recognized, or are recognized incorrectly, is growing.

Imposing this on users under the false pretense of speed and reliability (which it isn’t) is yet another middle finger to users (Plex Pass or not), and the mind continues to be lost day after day, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth.

Sorry, but old agents are based on Python, and we announced back in 2018 that they along with other plugins would go away!

Good news is though that we are about to make a new API avail for 3rd. party developers here: https://forums.plex.tv/c/dev-community/dev-api-corner/61 so they can create new agents/plugins using that instead

Perhaps the sequence of those two initiatives should have been reversed?

(Sarcasm here, obviously they should. Don’t take something away without first providing the alternative.)

Hello OttoKerner,

Thanks for your answer! However, I’m sorry I can’t find the “legacy agents” setting on the Library panel (Or I really am missing something )

Thanks!

Are you running the latest beta server?

No, but I can. (Installing in progress)

Edit: Ok I just updated to the last beta, no luck, still no legacy agents menu :’(

try looking in the individual library settings, not the global “Library” settings in server management:

edit - adding another screenshot to show how I got here on the web client:
