What the hell?!... No playback settings in mobile apps casting. YOU'VE BROKEN REMOTE STREAMING!

Why on earth have you removed the playback video quality settings from the player app (when the show is playing on chromecast on ios and android, or just on the device on ios)?

You’ve effectively killed remote streaming for me, as I can’t tweak the video quality setting to accommodate my network conditions. Now I just get endless buffering.

Changing the WiFi quality setting in the main settings section also appears to make no difference.

This is a massive issue for me. I’ve had to revert to older version of the app from apkmirror to reenable this essential feature, but my friends on ios are screwed.

Please reinstate this feature immediately.

Yours,
A very angry lifetime pass holder.

Can’t speak for when casting, but the quality settings are definitely still there for viewing in the app.

Sorry, you’re right it’s still there on Android, but gone on ios, when playing on mobile device. I’ve updated my post :+1:t2:

And gone on both when casting from mobile device, which is my primary use case.

I see it just fine on my iOS/iPadOS devices (but not when casting). What version are you using?

My friend has latest ios app and not visible there when playing on device or casting.

Casting my main issue, though, and used to be there on both and not there on either now.

That seems really odd. Can your friend provide a screenshot during playback and after tapping on the three dots (from the on-screen display)?

Here is the latest android app when casting (ios looks the same) … The three dot button is gone and no way to change video quality at all!

Here is the ios playback options when playing on device…

This is ios version…

And Android…

That is weird. On the iOS device during playback on the device, “Quality” should be just above Subtitles in that screenshot.

Is your friend streaming remotely or locally? If the latter, I wonder if that’s why. I’m currently remote from own Plex server so I can’t test out that theory…

Yeah, it all seems a bit messed up. But the removal of playback options on any device when casting (remote or local, btw) has completely killed the apps for me.

Really hope this gets fixed ASAP or I’ll have to abandon plex.

She’s remote streaming btw

Ever hear anything else about this? Casting is all but useless to me without the ability to lower quality. Same as yourself, remote streaming is virtually gone without it.

This serious regression is still occuring in Android client 2025.18.0 (966828412).

I continue to be frustrated with Plex putting a lot of time into things like re-styling and niche features, while regressing on core features of the product.

No, nothing mate. It’s so crappy. I’ve resorted to disabling updates and installing old version from APKMirror. Idiotic

Agreed. It’s very annoying.

Uea the latest app update really sucks, takes a long time for the app to even start.
Amd as for you my primary function with plex is to cast to my chromecasts at home for my children not view firectly on a phone or tablet. Worked great bedore when i could cjange quality on what i casted but now it constantly buffers, the fact they removed this feature makes me really question why i pay for a subscription when thr primsry function i want aint there no more.
They should adress this urgently.

Any news on this topic ?
If not, @SteveLondonUK Which version did you installed from apkmirror ?

Nope, nothing. Really pisses me off! This is the version I installed…

Any update on this? So far the only way I can work around is to apply a global remote streaming bandwidth limit to the server, but otherwise I’ve not found any way to set this from the client. Properly sucks as if you’re somewhere with limited bandwidth, it rather cripples Chromecast functionality.

Any thoughts, Plex people? Seems a big, unnecessary regression to me.

+1 to everything in this thread.

The feature is gone from my android app. I can no longer remote stream content to crappy hotel Wi-Fi.

What the hell am I even paying for plex pass for?

Agreed mate. It seems there are plenty of people unhappy with this idiotic regression, but seems like this forum is just shouting into the void… do plex staff even look at this stuff?

I’m on the brink of binning plex, tbh… this kind of rubbish annoys me too much! I’m now having to manually update EVERYTHING else on my phone just to keep plex viable! Bunch of ■■■■!
