Why on earth have you removed the playback video quality settings from the player app (when the show is playing on chromecast on ios and android, or just on the device on ios)?
You’ve effectively killed remote streaming for me, as I can’t tweak the video quality setting to accommodate my network conditions. Now I just get endless buffering.
Changing the WiFi quality setting in the main settings section also appears to make no difference.
This is a massive issue for me. I’ve had to revert to older version of the app from apkmirror to reenable this essential feature, but my friends on ios are screwed.
That is weird. On the iOS device during playback on the device, “Quality” should be just above Subtitles in that screenshot.
Is your friend streaming remotely or locally? If the latter, I wonder if that’s why. I’m currently remote from own Plex server so I can’t test out that theory…
Yeah, it all seems a bit messed up. But the removal of playback options on any device when casting (remote or local, btw) has completely killed the apps for me.
Really hope this gets fixed ASAP or I’ll have to abandon plex.
Ever hear anything else about this? Casting is all but useless to me without the ability to lower quality. Same as yourself, remote streaming is virtually gone without it.
This serious regression is still occuring in Android client 2025.18.0 (966828412).
I continue to be frustrated with Plex putting a lot of time into things like re-styling and niche features, while regressing on core features of the product.
Uea the latest app update really sucks, takes a long time for the app to even start.
Amd as for you my primary function with plex is to cast to my chromecasts at home for my children not view firectly on a phone or tablet. Worked great bedore when i could cjange quality on what i casted but now it constantly buffers, the fact they removed this feature makes me really question why i pay for a subscription when thr primsry function i want aint there no more.
They should adress this urgently.
Any update on this? So far the only way I can work around is to apply a global remote streaming bandwidth limit to the server, but otherwise I’ve not found any way to set this from the client. Properly sucks as if you’re somewhere with limited bandwidth, it rather cripples Chromecast functionality.
Any thoughts, Plex people? Seems a big, unnecessary regression to me.
Agreed mate. It seems there are plenty of people unhappy with this idiotic regression, but seems like this forum is just shouting into the void… do plex staff even look at this stuff?
I’m on the brink of binning plex, tbh… this kind of rubbish annoys me too much! I’m now having to manually update EVERYTHING else on my phone just to keep plex viable! Bunch of ■■■■!
