While using the web browser (Chrome) and on the Plex Server and accessing my collection, I do a search for “Clint Eastwood” and I find that I am missing half of the results for movies that he is in. He is always the primary character (lead star) in the pictures yet half of his movie are not displayed in the results. I was looking for a way to improve the searching. It is a bit of an irritation that this does not work as it should.
FYI: This also occurs when using Plex on Amazon fire TV cube and 4k stick. This also happens with a number of other Actors as well.
I looked at the procedure for upgrading an existing library. However, when I click on Manage Library, it does not display Upgrade Matching. So this probably is not the problem and maybe I have already had the upgrade done. My plex server has been running for about two and a half years. Not sure if these changes were in effect at the time or not.
All Libraries were set to Plex Movie. I did change the agent to Movie DB and upgraded the libraries. I guess I just have to wait now. Or is there something else I need to do?
So, it seems that even though I changed the Agent it has not taken effect. I select upgrade all libraries then do a metadata refresh. However, when I go back to where I made the change to Movie Database agent, It went back to Plex agent.
Downgrading the agent from Plex Movie to the old ones does not work. In fact, it has the potential to mess up your movie library for good. So don’t do it.
The old agents are no longer supported and will be gone completely sooner or later. Switching to them is a bad idea, no matter how you look at it.
Use a filter if you want to see all items with a certain actor.
The search is doing too much arbitrary stuff to remove “irrelevant” or “duplicate” results, to keep the list of search results compact.
That’s really not option. If you do a search for a specific Actor, Director, Producer, or Movie it should give you results for all of the relevant titles. If it does not then why not just remove the search function all together and tell everyone just to use filter (here’s a thought, maybe using filters is more cumbersome than searches). I would really like to do a search that gives accurate results. If it gives more results that are not needed at least that is better than missing results. or maybe do something like amazon does, you search something (they use fuzzy) and it gives you everything and then some. then you go to the left pane and select something more accurate to your original search if you did not like what you got.
