Anyone know when we’re going to be able to share LiveTV? I just bought a HDHomerun Connect for the rest of the family to stream Live TV. Apparently, some Idiot thought restricting this to the admin account was a good idea. I can’t let every one using my server be the admin. That’s just painfully, blindingly stupid! It makes managed users useless, gives rights to people they shouldn’t have, and makes any child restrictions useless. I don’t see a damn Beta tag anymore. I’m pissed they even advertised it to me like this.
Search the forums for the HDHomeRun Channel.
That’s what I ended up installing. Thanks for the tip. It technically works, but I’m losing that ascetically pleasing interface I paid for in Plex DVR / Program Guide. It’s like going to the grocery store. Not getting all of the produce you paid for, and the cashier just told you, “well you can grow your own food to make up for what I won’t let you have.”
It would be nice to get an official timeline from Plex on when it will be ready.
I don’t think they’re planning on it. I guess they just assumed this is a good idea and are to proud to change their minds.
For the record the HDHomeRunViewer bundle does work, and work well, but it’s not as pretty as Plex. The ability to record can also not be shared through this third party bundle either.
The current solution is pretty simple it’s called EMBY
There are legal issues with sharing live TV out of market etc with someone who isn’t the end user. Sharing opens the door for a lawsuit.

Is this based on any actual facts or complete speculation? Surely you can use the same argument with regards sharing tv shows/movies that have not aired in different markets.
Let’s face facts here, Plex has rolled out a semi complete version and used all sorts of excuses as to why functionality is not there to generate more income. The guide excuse has to be one of the funniest ones ever heard, but congrats to them for fooling the public and allowing that to be used as an excuse to delay their implementation. I’ve stated in another thread the truth is more likely that it actually takes a bit more effort to design a Guide rather than throwing everything in as posters etc to fit the look and feel they have already.
As stated above, try Emby and then come back with decent arguments as to why there is no Guide, cannot record and playback at the same time, cannot share live tv etc etc
Currently the only thing Plex Live TV offers over Emby is that the EPG data is provided with a plex pass subscription.

That doesn’t make sense. I can just share the recorded TV library with another user.

Sorry, but I call B.S.
A simple prompt requiring the administrator to acknowledge that allowing anyone outside the household to view live TV streams without first paying any applicable paying cable retransmission fees is a violation of what-have-you-law, would solve that issue, if it was an issue.
That, or at the very least allow a different account to be delegated as the live TV viewing account.
My plex administration account is for that – administration. None of our TVs use the administration account for viewing content, making use of live tv in Plex a non-option.

I call BS… Plex has an option for you, just not official. look at post#2
I use this channel for all of my home users and those who use clients that don’t support LiveTV yet.

just not official.
So, in other words, no “Plex” does not have that option.

Allow me to finish your statement for you…

This would be great to be able to share my LiveTV and DVR content with other family members. Plex, can you please look into adding this feature, or at least give us a consent box to turn it on, removing your liability from any legal aspects? This would be great.
